I was just forwarded this website and found it to be informative. I think it's important for all the women to read this. (No I'm not trying to scare you. The more information you have the better off you are.)

Inflamatory Breast Cancer

I am bumping this because I think this is information that needs to get out, and I am honestly surprised at the low level of response. Maybe it's because of the way I titled it?

Ladies I don't want to see you on my Unit or any other like it.

Thank you sweetie, knowledge is power. :rose:

Yes Sam,

Knowledge is power and the more you know about your body the better off you are. The Good Doctors will tell you this. They will honestly admit to your knowing more about your body than they do.

Thank you for posting this, SeaCat. :)

I had a mammogram this past Spring and have had one annually since my 35th year. Thankfully, I am well. :)

Thanks, Cat.

It is important information. Anyone finding something unusual needs to see a doctor.

As for regular health checkups, self-checks are as important as mammograms.

The mammogram didn't catch my mother's cancer and didn't catch her doctor's either, as a matter of fact. But they found it themselves through monthly exams. And early. So they are both fine, twenty some years later.

I'll use this to plug digital mammographies. My wife's breast cancer was almost to the chest wall. She has large breasts (OK, so that says something about me) and regular mammographies didn't find the tumor. The digital did. Some things are better than others. Her last mammography on the surgical breast was last week and everything is still fine. What I know at this time about breast cancer is remarkable.

Blackhous7,

I am always telling my patients, sometimes to the annoyance of their doctors, that they know their bodies better than anyone else.

Yes this includes male as well as female patients.

Check yourself on a regular basis.

Thanks for telling me about your wife, and I hope she continues to do well.

Sweet,

You are correct in the assumption thats elf checks are important. Not only are they important but they are vital. We know our bodies, we know what is normal for our bodies, our Doctors do not.

Thanks Cat

I'll pass it along to my friends.

here's a lil info related to Cancer.....

Celebration on the Hill 2006!
Start Time:
Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at 12:00am
End Time:
Thursday, September 21, 2006 at 12:00am

Celebration on the Hill is a Relay For Life-type event sponsored by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). Over 10,000 cancer survivors, patients, caregivers, and volunteers from across the United States will arrive in Washington, D.C. September 19-20, 2006 to convince our legislators to make cancer a national priority. To do this, we are asking U.S. Representatives and Senators to sign the Cancer Promise-a document that outlines the necessary steps Congress must take to help eliminate suffering and death due to cancer by 2015. We are also asking legislators to reauthorize and expand the Breast and Cervical cancer Early Detection Program and increase funding for research. It is our hope that more Americans will have access to health care and we can find a cure for this dreaded disease!

If anyone is around they area you can join in the walk or if you are interested you can follow the event at www.celebrationonthehill.org.

My wife and I are both in a walk down here in a couple of weeks. (Is this surprising considering I work on an Oncology Floor?)
