I just watched this video on YT from someone who clearly has some history with Amazon. Anyhow, he's claiming that Amazon has changed it's rules to downloading/storing kindle titles you may have bought but haven't yet downloaded. There's a cut off date of the 26th Feb .
I'm not a big kindle user but I discovered I had several that I hadn't downloaded to my ipad, which I've now done.

This is uncorroborated information and I don't have time to check its authenticity ( but I've found several more bloggers saying the same thing ). I realise there are frequent 'scare-bluffs' but who would bother to do one for books? Plus it's simple enough to fix.

I mostly buy second hand books. I realise means less income for the author, I am keeping second hand book sellers in employment. I opened one such recently that had a Happy Christmas. From Netts pencilled on the preface. I love those glimpses into a book's past life - why is that corner turned down or even better, little jottings in the margin. So long as they don't smell of eucalyptus.

That’s great! I have two used books that I love for similar reasons.

One is a collection of short stage plays from a college drama department with copious notes in the margins, including stage positions and posturing.

The other is a copy of Rise Up Singing, a collection of folk songs that was owned by a now deceased famous/infamous political activist. It has dog-eared pages, transposition notes, and some hand written alternate lyrics to many classic protest songs.

I wrote once to an author whose book I found in a rickety old bookshop, with green painted stairs and huge cobwebs blowing like flags across the ceiling... I told her about the old hippy shopkeeper and the tottering shelves. She kindly wrote back and was touched by my description and that her book had gone off and had adventures, only to be found and loved.
Do authors think enough of how our words are read? We fret about scores and our typos and the opinions of other writers we respect, but we seldom hear from our readers. Comments should be compulsory, but I suspect their infrequency adds to the worth ( or not! ).

Because those are the ones formerly owned by koalas?

Do you have these neighborhood exchange libraries where you live?

There are several of them in a short walk from my house. You never know what you’re going to find and they’re great for passing along old favorites.

Amazon sent out an e-mail to users about this pending change.
I didn’t get one. What does it say?
what does it mean for my Galaxy Tablet?
I'm not positive but - since nobody answered me and I have done some research of my own - it seems to me like this won't affect people like you and me who don't have hardware Kindles and (in my case and maybe yours too) read Kindle books on a Kindle app on non-Kindle hardware.

Maybe that's why we didn't get the email.

It also won't affect hardware-Kindle users who don't (and won't) download and side-load their Kindle books using a computer.

Counting down till someone says "well anyone who doesn't do that is wrong and is already fucked"

Well, the online options downloads the book to a library where you can read it offline. The library might be hidden. I thought someone said something about cracking the DRM code, but I don't see it now.

There a number of YTs explaining the situation and you have two more days until the 26th. The person who posted the ^^^ linked video in the past has downloaded titles to his computer so that he can copy them to a tablet later and the book becomes his property. Amazon regards the title as a digital loan of the book, meaning that they can later vary the terms which they are now doing.
I only have a dozen Kindle books that I read on my iPad and I've downloaded them, so I think I'll be fine. I don't rely on an internet connection to view them. I guess it depends on how you consume their products.

On a side note, given that the orange clown's outfit is banning more and more school books then I would expect Amazon would fall in line and make some titles disappear. Maybe they've done that already? I guess porn could be next.

ETA This thread was only ever a heads up - I hadn't heard anything or seen any email, but some users will apparently be affected.
