Some thoughts........

Being strong means many different things to many different
people. Often strength is mistaken for denial and for pushing
yourself too hard. There are times, in life, when we just need
to slow down, or to practically stop to take care of ourselves.
Life, while full of joy, is also full of stress and trauma. Be kind
to yourself.

If you want to truly be strong in the healthy sense of what
being strong means, you must first identify and be fully-
aware of your weaknesses. Often what we categorize as
our strengths are many of the things that are actually
weaknesses. It is from our weakness that we derive our
strength.

Strength, or being strong, can only take place when you
celebrate your weaknesses. We all have many of them.
It is time to stop trying to hide them or push them away.
They are such an important part of who you are. Being
strong means being in touch with and being accepting
of your weaknesses.

I can only be strong when I learn the reasons behind my
need to be strong.

CH

CH, I have this posted on the wall in my office and think it applies pretty well here. There is a time in the life of every problem when it is big enough to see, yet small enough to solve.

I think you hit it well, sometimes we are in denial of what the real problems are, we skip over them to work on something we think we can solve, while leaving another problem to fester and get bigger til we can no longer handle it.

Something to be said for stopping to smell the roses.

Strength in numbers

I believe we draw much of our inner strength and ability to take on the next challenge from those around us.

On the wall in my office is a poster which simply states:

"Nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something."

This statement encompasses the philosophy of my program which essentially challenges troubled families to network with their own informal supports and build upon their strengths.

Furthermore, I whole heartedly agree with everyone's posts on this thread. Thanks all! This old broad is having a bad day and needed a push and some perspective.

*smile*
