Some Advice Needed Please

Hi, Atlanta Girl!

Welcome here. Your story should be fine, and please let us know when it posts! Best of luck and all that jazz.

LA

I'm worried that maybe a lot of readers will only be interested in the actual sex "scenes" and simply won't care about my own thoughts (which are extremely important to me).
This all depends on which category you post the story in. If it's "Erotic Couples" those stories are most often stroke stories--readers want their sex straight up, not flavored with thoughts or too much story. If it's "Romance," however, the readers there usually want LOTS of thoughts and emotions and story with their sex.

"Loving Wives" is a really complicated category and before you submit in that category you should read some of the stories there and comments. As said, those are shark infested waters with knife-wielding readers and you need to know what you're getting into before you go swimming in that one.

"Gay Male" is a consideration if your husband was involved with this other guy. (Yes, I know that neither your husband nor this other guy may be gay, but readers who want hetero sex get remarkably touchy if you put a little m/m sex into their category; "Gay Male" readers, on the other hand, don't mind reading some hetero sex to go with the gay sex, and they usually like some thoughts as well), and "Group" if you were the one involved with your husband and the other guy, but other guy and husband never touched.

From the sound of it, your story is short--1 maybe 1 and 1/2 Lit pages. So don't worry about length. Put back what you cut out if you like. Category is a more important determination of whether readers will like your "thoughts" or want straight-up sex. And believe me, in certain categories, thoughts are very much wanted.

Indeed. While there are certainly those readers who only want a story to stroke to, there are quite a few who enjoy a good plot to go along with it. I've met quite a few of those myself. :D

Oh Gosh, I was planning on submitting my story in the "Loving Wives" category (because that's what I am to my husband!!) but the advice to be careful because of the "sharks" now has me concerned. My story is really about ME so I'd hate to get raked over the coals just because I don't come up to someone's expectations. Are there any other categories that I should be looking at?

You could try Erotic Couplings or Group (only if more than two people involved).

Loving wives is divided into casts...
1. the husband is a wimp if he allows his wife to cheat
2. the wife needs to get pregnant from the extra marital affair
3. if you don't use a condom they slam you about STD's
4. .... well you get the picture

The only stories that do well there is where the wife cheats, even though the husband knows about it, get kicked out of the house and he divorces her for cheating, even though he suggested it. That kind of story does well.

And she has a baby by a black man. Don't forget that part...

Boy, I sure am glad I'm not a therapist for any of these readers. Not that any of them probably go to a therapist....
No more than ami or jbj do. They come here and try to drain off their over-productive spleens.

You could always go with the group sex category. But it also depends on why you're writing the story. One thing that other people haven't mentioned, is that Loving Wives is a well read category. Your kind of story will get a lot of negative feedback, but you will get a lot of feedback.

Thanks To ALL of You !!!!

First of all, THANK YOU to ALL of you that took the time to reply to me (and welcome me). After much hesitation, I finally submitted the story that I had been working on. "My Coming Out - My Story" which I hope will make it to "Erotic Couplings". I'm afraid that it's going to be too long. I tried to cut out everything I could but, in addition to the sex, I just couldn't leave out the feelings and emotion that led my husband and I to this totally memorable evening that really changed a lot of things in our marriage.

I want to appreciate the kind offers I had to evaluate my piece. However, I wrote this most of all for my husband. I wanted him to know a couple of things that maybe he hadn't known about me. I know this sounds dumb but that's just the way I felt.

At any rate. Thank You!

Go with the emotion!!

You'll never please everyone with anything that you write. You need to write something the way you want it written. Share it with others, and like minded people will get what you're trying to say.

I love the emotion and thought process of a story. That's what makes it good.

Best of luck with it, and let me know when it's posted. I'd love to read it.

Please don't worry, it is not going to be too long! :)

The emotions and feelings are what make a story erotic as opposed to merely porn.

A good editor will not try to make you change the content of your story. They should, instead, help you find the best ways to express what you want to say, and if an editor tells you something you don't want to do-- you ignore the lousy bastard.
It's written down somewhere, in the writer's bill of rights. ;)

Congrats on the first one. Truly it becomes addicting.

Treat yourself to lunch in Buckhead when it posts. :D

At any rate, you're welcome. :rose: Once it posts, if it hasn't already, put a link to it in your signature line. :)

If you want people to read it and provide comments and suggestions, the Story Feedback Forum has some good reviewers. Just make sure to include the link to your story when you post the thread. Congrats on the first post and welcome to the AH. :rose:

Emotion is ok in a story as long as it isn't very long and doesn't interfer with the fucking. Actually, I usually just forget both since they usually interfer with the story...and being a virgin, of course...

Hi!
Let me get one thing accomplished first: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to each and EVERY one of you in this thread who took the time to welcome me and to give me advice.

I submitted my first (and only) story a number of weeks ago. Naturally, it was rejected and I was really bummed out for awhile. I had tried hard to really reach down and get into the feelings that I had experienced on that night and for awhile I really felt bad. As I had said, I had written the story more for my husband than anyone else (I hadn't shown it to him before I had sent it in) and I wanted very badly to tell him how I had felt during our "experience" with another guy.

Eventually I "got over it" and cleaned it up in accordance with the suggestions I received from the editors. Surprise! This time it was accepted!! OH WOW!!!!

However, what has really blown me away was the feedback that I've received the last three days. I just cannot believe it!

Many of the emails (from both men and women) have asked numerous questions. I would love to answer all of them but don't see how I will ever have the time to do this. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should proceed?

Again, THANK YOU to ALL of you who replied to my original email!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And since I didn't see this topic the first time around, welcome to the AH :D

"Fan" mail can be a bit overwhelming at first. If you get just general "Love your story" comments through email, I'd recommend a standard reply such as "Thanks for reading me" or "Thanks for your wonderful comment(s)" or anything to thank the reader.

I try to answer all emails I receive if they have an email address. Just remember, when you click REPLY in a Literotica feedback email, you need to copy and paste the email address into the TO: field otherwise the reply will go somewhere to the alternate Literotica dimension, never to be seen again.

I've seen some authors post a comment directly on their story to answer questions people ask. That's your choice, of course.

Anyway, congrats on your first submission! Post a link to your story or add it to your sig so we can take a look! :)

And a belated welcome to the AH!

OK. Thanks to both of you for your suggestion. Here's the link:

Again, THANKS to all of you that made suggestions to me.

I really should be finishing my own story but yours is far more imporant and I will run off right now and read it...... But remember how good it feels to write and post this first story..... It's like losing your cherry except it feels better......

I love when there is a fresh meat sale special here!!!

by way of eyup and welcome

However, what has really blown me away was the feedback that I've received the last three days. I just cannot believe it!

Many of the emails (from both men and women) have asked numerous questions. I would love to answer all of them but don't see how I will ever have the time to do this. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should proceed?

Missed you the first time round as I wasn't around at the time and well done on not asking The Question while you were biting your fingernails to the quick waiting for your story to post.

Two things:

One: a fair bit of the feedback you got/are getting is designed to inveigle you into various nefarious dealings from a simple e-mail relationship to wanting to meet and get in your knickers. This is because you are a girlie and wrote about sex. You can answer all these mails (if you want to answer them) with a simple "Thanks for reading my story." they tend to get the hint.

Two: The best of the feedback will be not about you but about your story. How the reader was drawn in or identified with characters. How well (or badly) you handled the emotional content in your writing. How many speeling eraws there was or grammatical ridiculosities.

These latter deserve a longer reply, since they took the time to comment personally.
If Zoot sends one of the latter, pointing out discrepancies and/or praising your descriptive abilities he definitely does not want a reply because his favourite pastime is pontificating.

This is, of course, if you want to reply. If your only aim was to write that one story to get it off your chest then that's fine. On the other hand, if you think the writing bug has bitten, then it is a good idea to reply to 'serious' feedback'.

That's all.
