Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, CHIPS, roads built for the public across my land, easements granted to utilities across my land so my neighbor can live comfortably, government doing basic research that leads to a product that I then have to pay for. Lots of things.

The United States has been Socialist since WWI. I think your "gotcha" is just a debate regarding the amount of socialism people are comfortable with.

Social liberalism = democratic decision to tax and provide public goods/services.

Socialism = government ownership/control/administration over the means of production and distribution of goods and services.

You've identified the "good" forms of socialism: those services and amenities which directly benefit aging baby boomers.

Contrast that with so-called "bad" socialism, which are goods and services and amenities that benefit #ThosePeople (i.e. non-English speakers, minorities, the poor, the disabled, etc)...the kinds of "socialism" that makes mixed-race Semi-white Nationalist bastards break out in hives at the mere mention of. Sure, they get their pensions and free healthcare from the federal government, but That's Different.

Try giving everyone in America enough money to be considered wealthy. In three days, this country would be fucked up in every way conceivable and then some - more than people can imagine. Suddenly, there’s no need or incentive to work and inflation would be astronomical. That’s just the tip of the iceberg.
All kinds of other things would be going on and people would riot in the streets. Eventually, the money runs out and you’re left with ..... a situation that mirrors Venezuela.

So it all boils down to the money, who gets it. Free money for everyone sounds great, but isn’t.
