So... Who does it better?

Viking turned out to be Morten Harket, the lead singer of A-ha. The judges on The Masked Singer UK were completely off-the-mark in trying to guess Viking's identity.

You obviously like those music competition shows. "Take Me On" was originally done by A-ha, including that drawing animation in what, 1985? It was all over MTV at one point. Anyway, that's obviously not Weezer in the video portion, but so what? Thank God I didn't name my son Rivers.

There was a whole album of reggae covers of Dylan songs; I'd have to check the name of it.

Tom Waits is an acquired taste although this is the best live audio version I could find.

At least you can hear all of the lyrics with them, although I'm not sure what the song is about. "The Burlington Northern (the former railroad) pulling out of the world."
I don't have a who did it better, but if you're gonna mention Waits, then I have to mention this epic piece of bad assery

As in almost every movie, the music is dubbed into the film. There was actually a short streetcar line built in Culver City for this, although back-projection (it was a bit crude back then) was used in most of the scenes

They found a real streetcar for this. It's obviously Commonwealth Avenue in Boston; one can see the Prudential Building and the Citgo sign in Kenmore Square. I think it was a live performance, although it was dubbed into the location footage.

Kelly Clarkson gained a lot of weight and then she lost it. Now she's forty. Hell, I'm going to be 67 soon and I know I look it.

Somewhat atypical song, sort of anti-romantic? Or at least cautionary. A few other singers, mostly male (Dylan, Springsteen) have done songs like that. Oh yeah, Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway did "Where is the Love?" which sounds great but it's rather bleak.

Okay, Carole King had "It's Too Late Baby" and Joni Mitchell had "Skate Away." Those are about break-ups, although they sound regretful. Gloria Gaynor sounds defiant in "I Will Survive."

So cool. First time doing this. How do I include photos?
The insert image icon, or ctrl P will allow you to post photos from the internet. Or if you own the pictures you can use the attach files. But if it's an image that is from the internet it will be scrubbed.

A very young Van Morrison.

Patti Smith first covered it in 1974-75, but this has a better audio.

Hope this one works. She also flipped the gender, although the narrator of the song is talking about another woman. She also added a lot of new lyrics.
And here is the original group - The Shadows of Knight...

Shadows of the Knight - thanks, I didn't know they even existed. Apparently, the band is still around, with maybe one original member. Sometimes it's hard to trace a song all the way back to its beginning.

The reason I'm including the below video is because I live three blocks from what was the end of that line and, well, I see this every day. Of course, the line is gone now (the photos were taken in 1973-74) although the double-deck station is still there. One can also see the restaurant where The Godfather shooting was filmed (when Michael kills Sollozzo) although the building is empty now.
