So Raimi is making World of Warcraft

The only thing Raimi ever fucked up was Spidey 3, and that was cus apparently he's a whiny brat.

He's kinda like Joss Whedon to me, until proven otherwise he gets blind faith. Even with video game to movie translations which have a sad sad history.

I will admit

to being a closet WoW'er...

and as such, I have great devotion though most people don't know I play. Well, everyone at lit might now, but that's okay. Anyway, I have high hopes.

Raimi has flashes of absolute brilliance. And then there's a Spidey 3 once in a while where the director can't pick a danged direction and so throws in 3 count them 3 villians who should all get much more development, like 2 movies per. Okay, maybe not Sandman, he could have been the main villain, and then intro Hobgoblin (yes I know he should have been hobgoblin, and I'm a woman), at the end, so he can be the big villain in 4. THen you intro Venom when Spidey rips off the black suit at the end of 4, and whambangpow you have your villain for 5.

Maybe I thought about that too much given the topic is the WoW live action movie, but hey. So, in short, we'll probably get a focus of a NE, Dwarf and Human for the allies, then I'd guess Orc, Tauren and Troll for the hordies...and in the very end they'll all fight one mega baddie, like a raid enemy. If the focus is too tight, like one character I'll wanna cry. But it could still be a good movie.

i predict it will suck.

and samanthamom harry osborne was also the 2nd green goblin when everyone thought his father was dead. i was hoping they would have done the resurection plotline at the end of three. and it saddened me deeply that they used venom like he is an afterthought when he is spidermans best villian(at least the eddie brock versions was)

he was known as the hobgoblin... or hobby as spidey calls him

before he bcame hobgoblin he did a run as the green goblin to avenge spider man killing his father. here is a quote from his wikipedia page

Harry Osborn is a fictional character, a supporting character of Spider-Man in the Marvel Comics Universe. In addition to being Peter Parker's best friend, Harry was the second Green Goblin and is the son of the first, Norman Osborn.

he was also later the hobgoblin. he also died and has recently come back to life in a recent comic and peter tries to turn him to the good side but harry turns him in to his father who is the leader of the dark avengers.

yeah im a comic nerd. i even have some mint golden age stuff.

I'll grant you that Harry's first run as a goblin was appearing as Green Goblin, however, you ask 100 or more readers old enough to know both incarnations of Harry's villain, and you're more than likely gonna get Hobgoblin from most of them.

not denying that. but it was not an issue for him to be the next green goblin in the movie because he was the green goblin in the comic. the movies were made for people who never read the comics or only a few. most of them never heard of the hobgoblin. thats why they are not having such an easy time introducing villians in the spiderman movies and why every fucking superman movie has lex luthor.

If they make a WoW movie, I'm hoping that a majority of the characters are CG.

I've played WoW since beta, and just can't imagine actors playing Thrall, Vol'jin, Cairne Bloodhoof, or any other Orc, Troll, or Tauren. Remember Dennis Hopper playing Bowser in the Super Mario movie? That's what it would be like.

I'd like to see the movie start with Malfurion Stormrage and Maiev hunting down Illidan. And then tell the story all the way up to when Arthas kills his father.

well, see, that's another topic entirely...Lex Luthor...He's not just a villain...He's the Arch-Villain...the Arch-Enemy. He shouldn't get killed off, ever, except maybe to die of old age. The Dark Knight was a good example, you can't kill the Joker. You can put him in Arkham for a while, til he escapes and causes more trouble for Bats. That's My thouhgt on that.

we'll have to wait and see the plot and how they do non human and non elf characters...

This movie will suck! WoW gamers won't like it and people who havent' heard of WoW won't see it. I predict a flop at the box office.

I highly doubt it will suck. Not with the money activision/blizzard is putting into it. Not with Sam Raimi at the helm. And not with 11 million people waiting to buy a $10 ticket.

11 million. That's a number that Blizzard likes to throw around. But it's not 11 million current subscribers, and a good majority of that 11 million are Chinese Farmers.

*laughing* actually, the definition of subscribers in the MMO world as well as in the pay tv world is "Current" subscribers. Whether or not even a large number of them is chinese farmers, let alone a majority remains to be seen. I mean they boot 50k subscribers here or 20k subscribers there and it doesn't seem to hurt the real playing base of the game, so I highly doubt it.

I made my prediction and you made yours. We'll have to see, how it goes.

Even on their forums, the blues (Blizz employees) admit that there aren't 11 million active subscribers. The number is closer to 5 million active players...which is still a large number.

I've seen many guilds just up and fold because their membership has vanished...and we're talking high-level raiding guilds. I've seen 90% of my friend list inactive for over 6 months. The forums are filled with similar stories.

So while Blizz may have 11 million subscribers in their database, the fact that they have the RaF program (Recruit a Friend w/ triple experience) and Scroll of Resurrection program (offering free months if you bring a previous player back to the game)...it just shows that their numbers are dwindling faster than they'll admit.

A lot of people were convinced that the Lord of the Rings movies would suck. Peter Jackson didn't have the greatest reputation as a director. He was much like Sam Raimi was before Spiderman. A director of low-budget B movies.

If they don't use CG characters for orcs, trolls, Tauren and Dranei then I agree, the movie won't be worth seeing.

but thats the thing. lex luthor has died. several times in fact. but he doesnt need to be in every film. brainiac, parasite, doomsday, bizzaro, or any of his other villians with actual powers would be great. i want to see superman get into a fight. the kind that makes you think he is getting his ass kicked.

show me something like this fight with doomsday.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbruP0qDrqY

if that was from a live action movie it would be awesome. i loved the way the fight ended although i didnt care for supermans face. it even has a luthor subplot.

But even the larger guilds are usually only made up of 300 or so active members at any one time (that doesn't count alts, people who aren't playing because they're on vacation or overseas, or for other reasons just aren't around much). Factor in the fact that not all of those 5 million members are on the same server. They're split up among over 200 "realms" that might have up to twenty five thousand active players on them.

I think the reason that most raiding guilds are disbanded is not for a lack of active players per se, but rather a lack of good management, a lack of compatibility among the members, and/or a lack of interest (some people give up raiding for PvP or they switch servers to play with friends or to play on an RP server, etc).

You gotta remember though, Superman is a comic from the 50's on, or was that 40's. In any event there are a ton of villains most know nothing about. Besides Lex wasn't always the villain in the superman movies, there was the three convicts from his home world in superman 2 or 3, and the computer in superman 5 I think it was.

Course Superman has something WoW doesn't, a consistent story, a well thought out, mostly anyway story. WoW on the other hand, has 3 games, the first one with almost no story, the other two minimal story, let's not even mention the rather major lack of a story in WoW at least up to 47 anyway. If it wasn't for large battles a WoW movie would only be like half an hour.

he was also a villian in part conspiring with the kryptonians to get australia in return. (the richard donner cut kicks ass) and in part 4 the computer was made by richard pryor but only with the help of lex luthor. and in part three he created the superman clone. he was in every modern superman movie. i dont mind him being in some of them but every single one? fuck

btw superman was created in 1932 and nobody wanted it. spider man was created in was created in 1962 and stan lee's editor didnt want to do it because "nobody likes spiders its a horrible idea." this is after he created the fantastic four and the hulk.

Are you sure he helped with the computer? I don't remember there being a Lex Luther in that one.

Anyway, you are so a geek boy. :p Though dang 32, I didn't know it went that far back, so I gotta ask, what happened to him during WW2? I don't recall seeing any war era comics of superman, Captain America sure, who hasn't seen those, but not superman.
