The GLBT Chatter does have a tendency to be rather a bit more sexually oriented than the General Board. Also, it tends to be rather male-oriented in many respects.

Occasionally though, there is something of definite quality on the board.

i know the sorts of topics you mean without even looking ... i think the thing is a lot of people aren't actually "out" and they use the GBLT to get some of those feelings out there ... just sometimes they're a bit too "out"

you can get some great discussion going on the GBLT though ... just often you have to work to get it started yourself ... or catch the moment when someone else has started a good topic

There were a number of good topic right after I joined on there, so a lot of my early posting was on the GLBT board, but most of them ran their course and have been left behind.

yeah but i think thats one of the reasons for the GBLT ... it gives people a place to be out when perhaps they aren't even out to themselves quite yet really

I'm sure it will, I have no doubts about that, but the atmosphere of the board is a bit more amorous in mood at the moment.

So it's nevertheless applicable, at least for now; if I had some interesting topics to bring up I would, but I make so few threads anyhow.

How interesting! It is a rather odd phenomenon in many respects and not necessarily one that I'm fully sure has an easy explanation. It's a bit of a cycle though, both in the sense that the nature of discussion is cyclical (changing between interesting and not so interesting), but also in that the absence of interesting topics results in the absence of interesting responses, which results in the absence of such conversation -- a bit like why, in part, the board is slow late at night (American time); people aren't responding, because there are no topics being posted to, because people aren't responding. Cycles within cycles in a sense.

Are you taking titles granted by LT now?

It's the weird almost paradoxical nature of the current of the board, but it manages to work out sometimes.

It seems to be mostly men who are interested in sex between men anyhow (I think there's infinitely more talk about lesbianism on the GB, even if some of its perhaps a bit contrived). I'm more interested in discussing issues as they relate to sexuality, rather than discussing it in and of itself. Regardless of the age of those involved and obviously that circumvents those who are perhaps more voyeuristic than conversational.

Being called a lesbian back when I was in school was a pretty big put down. College was different and I was a Sports Medicine/Health Ed type before I got into Motessori Education and by the mid-eighties everyone was coming out it seemed.

True. The direction seems to be going to the right. Meaning g-l--->B-T. At least there needs to be more of a balance. Maybe it's time for some strong "male" issues to be brought up again.

I think one of the pitfalls of the board is that there is so much general agreement on many issues, it doesn't lead to as much spirited discussion as we would get with a more diverse group of posters.

As a fag hag I'd like to see more discussion about the political and lifestyle issues that relate to the region that various homosexuals are living in. One friend of mine left NY and his true love because it was so different from growing up in the SF area. There really is much more tolerance here. Another man friend who has a suit n' tie career has found that he is getting more work by being out since companies want to fill 'quotas' or look more hip by having gay employees. He's also trying out for our famous Gay Men's Choir here, so fingers crossed.
The real Lesbian community is very strong here and pushing the spiritual envelope especially when it comes to raising children. More of them at that forum would be nice too. Out of four Kindregarten classes we had had two two-mommy families come to our Mother's Day luncheon and no one flinched a bit. At least not out loud. Teasing in the past was a big problem at our school in the higher grades when same-sex couples came to support their children.
Somehow I think that people who are out and comfortable have other sites to go to and have their fun. Trans and Bi lifestyles are a very big trend now, so it makes sense that they take up space.
It would be nice to see more stories about coming out and relationship gossip is always fun. Feel free to point me towards threads that might be more interesting.
