I'm a hobby writer. I've never claimed to be anything else. But I also have other interests. I don't think anyone here allows writing to be their only hobby or creative outlet.

So this is partly inspired by the "Anti-boasting" thread. I wanna' hear some boasting about other things ya'll do for hobbies. I'll start. I was a welder/fabricator/mechanic for much of my working career. Now I do it in the hobby realm. Recently I needed a new ditching bucket for the backhoe I use on my tractor. When I checked the price it was a "you want what for that????" kinda' thing. I had a pile of metal, tools, a welder and the know-how to put them to use. I ended up with this:

Yeah I'm a little bit proud of the final product.

Okay, your turn. let's see some brag-worthy hobby end products.

I have a mini farm, which is mostly a hobby and maybe 10% for purposes. Chickens, horses, the occasional flock of wild turkeys, and my gardens.

I do garden as a hobby. I grow veggies, herbs, a ton of flowers, and a poison garden. I make a lot of custom blend herbal teas, herbal medicines, and preserves of different types, including hot sauce.

Most of my hobbies have practical applications. The only one that really doesn't is that I collect Baby Yoda's. Mostly the little mini figurines. I like to arrange them in my house plants and around my bookshelves.

I am jealous of your ability to grow things. I have a black thumb. And it's not because I am inept at farming. My brother-in-law can grow just about anything and has over the years taught me and mentored me on how to do it. I follow his direction, have him check me on what I'm doing and 75% of the time the plants are either stunted or die. So cuddo to your affinity to plants and farming!

I write songs. Pop songs, dance songs, rock songs, ballads, all arrangements and lyrics complete. These days I use a cheap (free) sequencer and plot every note, every beat, every piano fingering, every guitar lead, every waver of the melody.
Another one of my "damn I wish I could" along with playing music. (y)

I design jewellery, then go to the goldsmith to have it made. It's a very fulfilling hobby, but it can be eyewateringly expensive.
I imagine it would be expensive! Got any pictures of the stuff you designed? I'd love to see some.

I refer you to my signature below. ;)
 Playing a musical instrument is one of those things I always wished to do, but for various reasons never have. The oboe is a haunting instrument that stirs the melancholy in one's soul. The English horn always reminds me of fifes and drums and battlefields.

Not showing off, I once took a screenshot of the sudoko puzzle - it was not possible and sent to the app provider and my phone maker...No reply

I really am a lackluster writer, horrible really. I'm much better masseuse, cook and crafter.
I yarn. Crochet, cross stitch, weave and knot & moreever.
I also build, wood, cement, cardboard etc.

I do garden as a hobby. I grow veggies, herbs, a ton of flowers, and a poison garden.
Ah, I express confusion on the last two words here.

If literal, my questions proliferate. But maybe there's a metaphoric meaning that escapes me?

The oboe - that quintessential ill wind that nobody blows good!

But I’m with you. Not musical and my reason lies limited to a lack of coordination.

not showing off? You should and have good reason to. that's what this is about.

We may not be perfect at those things we do as hobbies, but we do them because we love to do them. That love gives the product of a hobby a flavor that can't be duplicated elsewhere. Now about that cooking thing, another hobby of mine, I love to eat!

Huh. Interesting. I can make my oboe sound like a bagpipe (bagpipes being a collection of oboes, basically), which is historically a Celtic battle instrument intended to incite the troops. English horn is what I find haunting and melancholy, and enjoy playing it to that effect - Swan of Tuonella, New World Symphony, and all that is wistful.

Oboe is considered the most difficult of the modern classical wind instruments to play, possibly tied for that position with the French horn. I happen to play French horn, as well, which in a way verifies I must be some manner of masochist.

I have a garden devoted to poisonous plants. Hellebores, nightshade, daturas, brugmansilla, aconite, foxglove, castor bean, lilies of all types, etc. I want an oleander, but they a) don't do great here and b) are bad for my future bee plans, bees that feed heavily on oleander, which they love, will produce poisonous honey.
