So depressing.

Thank you Eagle and DT for actually getting it.

Eagle, that was just in fun. We love to beat the US, and the US loves to beat us. It'll be the same come time for the World Championships again - but this time there'll be an Olympic gold to avenge.

For those of us who've lived through it Freya, its easy to understand, and easy to sympathize. I feel terrible for those kids, as much as i feel happy for the russians. theres always gonna be a winner and a loser...but that dosent mean its gotta be easy to accept defeat.

And i know, all in fun darlin. I love it when we kick Canada's ass, as much as you like kicking ours. Its understandable. Just a friendly rivalry. Just remember...where do those hockey players go to play professionally?:D Can i get a USA chant?!

Who watched that game? I see the faces of those poor players, and it's so sad. They really are just babies at that age, and their disappointment is so obvious.

Fucking Russians making our boys cry. ;)

I'm sure you're not talking about the GAINTS and 49ES game. Kick ass game. I'm glad the GAINTS lost.

I'm a Falcons fan....they will kick some Eagles ass on Saturday, watch it!

I love the GAINTS.

I heard most of their guys are dyslexic.

Jeremy Shockey is GOD.

And wait until Vick loses his running ability. When he gets hit so hard, he tears his ACL. He wont be anything but a mediocre QB then.

That is all

Hey! You know, there's more to life than sports.

Eagle - well, they follow the almighty dollar. My team - the Wings - is made up of predominantly Canadian players. The Canada/US rivalry in world hockey is a fun one. Like I said, there's two gold medals for you guys to avenge next time.

I've never heard of a Junior Hockey League Championship, or whatever. I doubt if it was on TV at all, although with 100+ cable channels, who knows? I can't stand hockey so I wouldn't have watched it even if it was on.

On the other hand, I didn't watch the NFL games, either. But for those of you who did watch, didn't the teams who lost have members who looked a bit sad when the game was over? I'll be a few of them even cried! These aren't 17 or 18 year old kids, either, these are grown men! Why should kids take disappointment better than adults?

You know, I hate stereotypes, but I have to admit that when I saw your name as posted here, my mind instantly jumped to a not-so-good conclusion. Thank you for proving me wrong Chey.

You're welcome. And notice that no one has answered my question yet, either! :p

You made a valid point. Therefore, nobody will feel the need to answer it. It's the Lit way - if someone is right, ignore it and jump on them for other misconceptions you have about them instead.

Hi Freya
My sister and I watched the game with bated breath while trying not to chew off our fingernails. It was a great game, and our guys played well, but the Russians were on top tonight. Their passing was a lot more accurate and their skating faster. It was a good game. But I would have preferred Canada win..ah well, there is always next year.

And as somebody else mentioned, I have noticed that women are much more rabid hockey fans than a lot of men that I know. :)

I sure like that Jordin Tootoo....if Ken Dryden has any brains at all, he'll snap him up in next year's draft or buy him.

Spoken like a true Maple Laughs fan.

FYI, Tootoo was drafted by Nashville.. If the Leafs had a half decent scoting staff they could have picked him up since he was only a 4th round pick. As it is, I'm still pissed a good kid like Ian White is going to Toronto.. I was hoping the Stars could pick him up in last years draft.

I agree with your other points though.. Silver is nothing to be ashamed about. What pisses me off are the people who bitch and moan that Canada didn't win gold and act as if that's a huge failure.

These kids gave up a holiday at home to represent their country and they did a damn good job doing so. I'm proud of our Canadian teams weither they finish 9th or 1st and I happen to think all Canadians should be that way.

Silver is perfectly acceptable - my point was that, at the time, I doubt they feel that way. Not by the looks on their faces anyways.

Was a good game though.

No, they sure looked disheartened didn't they?

And I know you didn't say anything, but there are those that do think that way.. That anything less than gold is unacceptable. Canada's desire to win gold in ever international hockey tournament is equal maybe to only Brazil when it comes to them and soccer.

I've always said that unless you are a born Canadian, you can't understand Canada's passion for the sport... But sometimes I think that passion for the game goes a little too far.

Well to me, football is a non issue, so this game was a big deal tonight.

I think some people are so used to us just leading the pack for so long that they find it hard to accept that other countries are just as good, if not better at times. The US and Russia, just to name two, have proven that to us.

OMG. Honestly, there really is a world outside of the United States. I wouldn't lie to you. Check an atlas if you don't believe me.

There was a Junior Hockey Championship gold medal game on. Did nobody seriously watch it?

(Note: the post to which I am replying was the third in this thread, a couple of pages ago.)

Get off your fucking high horse, Freya. Who said anything about the US? I'm just supposed to KNOW you're in Canada? You mention a game, and sad players - no mention of which country, or even WHICH FUCKING SPORT!!!! Get over yourself and your Canadian "Boo-hoo the US ignores us" victim mentality. Personally, I doubt this game was even ON TV here in the states. If it was, it was watched by VIRTUALLY NOBODY. Hockey - and I'm talking pro, NHL hockey - is MAYBE the sixth most popular spectator sport in the US, after MLB, NFL, NBA, NASCAR (ugh), and possibly golf. The whole world isn't enraptured with amateur hockey. There IS a world outside of Canada, you know. Check an atlas if you don't believe me.

Disclaimer to non-Freya Canadians:
I like Canada. I really do. Hell, I'm probably the only American who can name all the provinces, and their capitals. I even contemplated moving to Toronto many years ago, before meeting my wife. So, believe me, I mean no offense to Canada or Canadians in general.
