i was just watching raiders of the lost ark adn got to thinking about people's phobias and fears and why they have them. for me ( like the man in the hat) it's snakes. i hate the damned things. all wiggily, hissy and poisonus. not to big on spiders either, but can deal with them. my brother is afraid of clowns. well, afraid is not really the best way to describe it. more like has a violent reaction to the mere presence of a clown. he once chucked one in a lake at a party. so what makes you break out in a cold sweat at the barest mention of it.

Ahhh, snakes. I adore them. I spent my senior year in Botany class with a four and a half foot reticulated python draped around my neck. She was a sweetheart.

you're a better man than i am gunga din! :D . you couldn;t pay me enough to go near it, grade or not, class or not. bugs, ok, dogsok, anything else ok, throw me out of a plane withoug a chute and i'd be happy...........but god no snakes:)

I don't fear snakes.....I actually have a red tail boa... :)

THe one thing I fear is cockroaches...God they scare the hell out of me. :(

cockroaches, huh? i've been told that th eonly thing left after a nuclear war will be cockroaches and members of my family. naturally it's due to the superior survival skills of both species.:D

*LoL* :D

Snakes freak me out as well.

The I only kind I tollerate are king snakes, only because they eat other snakes.

I fear my own virginity. And, Moths. I accidently touched 1, once. EWWW!!!!!! I have this fear that a Moth will get caught in my throat when I'm alseep. Funny that I'm watching "Silence Of The Lambs," right now.

I despise crickets.

There was no grade involved. The teacher just kept his snakes in the class and we were allowed to handle them. Tamed them down.

bugs in general, snakes, spiders, yup, creep me out totally.

I used to be afraid of mice, but living in the middle of a forest preserve, and with someone that has a ton of birds, well...I got used to them.

Especially after I accidently left a half a cup of coffee in my studio over a weekend, only to come back and find one doing the backstroke in it. Poor lil guy couldn't get out.

I flushed him. he was half drowned anyway...

all pretty scary stuff, folks! bugs snakes and clowns, oh my!:) latinababe, how do you handle the cockroaches when they come `round. that's another good question for us all: how do we handle and react to our fears. with me and snakes i either run screaming or pickup the nearest heaviest object and smash it to fucking goo.

To digress slightly.

My daughter is scared of spiders, yet when she was 2 or 3 she would find a spider and happily play with it.

So,what changed her?.

Was it that her mother, her grandmother,on seeing the spider, would practically have hysterics?.

don't guess i really have an extreme fear of anything living. For me is wheels. I have panic attacks on rollar skates, and when i have to drive. Oh, and heights, even standing on a chair to change a light bulb *shudder*

Probably is. Too bad they put their phobias on her. Children are easily influenced that way.

I only fear one thing. I fear the very thing that FDR told us to fear.

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself".

Whether I'm extrememly brave or extremely stupid, I don't know.

even when the lil darlins are off for the summer??!!:rose:

Yep. There is just something about Mondays.

One, my wife goes off to work. I hate that. Believe it or not I actually miss having her around.

Two, I have to do all the things I don't do on weekends, like exercise the ol' leg (walking a long way in our wonderful heat and humidity. Doctor appointments. It is amazing at how much crap there is to do when there is nothing to do. I am sure the other teachers can vouch for this.

Three, it always takes a few minutes for me to wake up and figure out that it is summer vacation.

Four, July 27 is coming fast, way to fast. I gotta lotta stuff to do before then to get ready for the wee darlins. I am making a big change. From urban black high schoolers to redneck country as all hell white high schoolers. I never really taught this kinda group before.

Besides, doesn't the word Monday just sound evil?

The only thing I can imagine more evil than Monday......would be a snake named Monday.

As a sidenote...you poor thing!! Rednecks are THE WORST! I know because i'm surrounded by them!
So here's a lil hint for you.....never EVER leave a can of soda unattended. Those guys will use anything for a spittoon!
