Singledad's Bootcamp

I did my morning walk with Z (the dog) this morning. We only got in a mile 'cause we were short on time, but at least we got out there. I went in for weigh in this morning and got my hand smacked out slacking on vitamins, but I only gained 5 lbs! I was pretty stoked about that. Not too shabby for 18 weeks :D

I'm going to smack more than just your hand if you skip on those vitamins! They go a long way in your baby's brain development!

From now on, I'm going to ask if you have taken your vitamin! Sorry, but that is some extremely precious cargo you are developing inside of you!

That's awesome NRS! But seriously those prenatals are VERY important. They will give you energy as well. If you like your nails they will make them very strong and they will grow fast as well.

Keep taking care of you and your precious cargo!

Thanks!! I've got the prenatals down! That's no biggie... It's all the extra crap I gotta take. For instance, I have to take 6 pills of one kind! SIX!! That's just for one extra boost of calcium citrate!! I swear all I do it pop pills all day! Thank goodness my B12 is sub-lingual

My bad!! I didn't mean to freak everyone out! lol I'm taking all the necessary stuff... it's just all the extra crap that I don't always get down. My blood work looked good, just a little low on my Thamin (part of the B's) and Vit D3 (need more sunshine!)

Boast away!

She's motivating me! This is good. (I do miss my dog, tho.) Don't forget your vitamins... And, watch out for BluKitten. She be slappin' you! Damn. ;)

Dude, Don't freak out that bad, LOL. You have your base now you can go to work and see your accomplishments. I'm at 34% body fat, so be happy you haven't let yourself go as much as I have.

I'm not really freaking out that bad...I just didn't think I'd let myself get that far.

I'm off... walking to the Farmer's Mkt... only about a half mile, but I know I'll feel better when I get home. It's a beautiful sunny day & I'll catch a glimpse of the ocean, too.
I'll avoid walking by the local taverns... tempting as it may be.

singledad68, What's your opinion on the BMI scale? According to my doc, I'm in the normal range for my height and weight... I'm also, up there, age-wise (52).

Every little bit helps, don't discount that half mile!

for the most part, I think the BMI scale is crap! Don't set your life by it, but you can use it as a tool. Do you know that there are men in the military that are 5'11" tall and weigh 200 lbs and are completely buff and ripped 6pack and all and they are REQUIRED to go to the fat boy work outs! The reason, BMI, that person is about 28% body fat according to BMI but if they were to do the water test would be about 6% or so...

What I'm trying to say is in the beginning its a good tool to use the BMI, but don't set your life up to it. I know ladies that are 5'4" that look fat at 150 lbs and I know others that look absolutely beautiful at 150lbs...its all about your frame and NOTHING else. Get to where YOU feel comfortable and where your doctors say you are healthy. Don't look at the scale! Look at the clothes you wear. If you're in a 12 and unhappy, you may be extremely happy in a 10 or possibly an 8, but I doubt it.

Don't pay attention to what society puts on the runway, that's all crap! most american males are attracted to size 10's, its a fact. You may want more for yourself, you may want to be a 5, but do that ONLY if YOU want to do that, not because of someone or something else.

I'm going to post a link to a body fat calculator, not sure if it will work, if it doesn't pm me for it. This is better then the stupid height weight BMI. and for the record, I think those charts for the babies.....Yea, They are a bunch of crap as well!

I have started back at the gym again plus squash swimming and aquafit. Cut out carbs, snacks and Pepsi Max (oh how I miss you!!) Drinking up to 4 litres of water a day (yeh it's alot) but my skin is so much better, I have far more energy and reading this thread really helps my motivation. I just signed up for a charity run which I am determined to actually run!!

So I just wanted to say Hello and thank you Singledad and the other posters for keeping me motivated :)

This is awesome Smile! Welcome to the thread and thank you for contributing. Please do not cut out carbs! That's not good your body needs them, just change the type of carbs you are getting. More brown rice then potatoes LOL....If you get bread, get bread that has seeds in it, can almost not go wrong there. At publix they have the really good breads buy one get one about every 3 weeks, I always get two or four and stick them in the freezer!

If you are like me and have more then 20lbs to loose, it is okay to reduce your carbs to about 20% of your daily intake. But a good healthy diet (I don't like to use that word, but really our daily food intake is our diet) is 40% protein 40% carbs and 20% Fat.

Also, 3 meals and 2 snacks a day with plenty of water is the best way, don't cut out snacking, just make sure you snack healthy and proportion well.

Again, welcome and great work!

I don't have much to loose for me it's more about becoming leaner. I like my curves I don't want to loose them but seeing as I love food I doubt that will happen :) I should have said bread and potatoes not completely cutting out carbs but I have a love of fresh crusty bread so that's gone for the moment as are the mashed potato. And fruit for snack rather than crisps and dip aha! I'm trying to stick to three meals a day.
Thank you for the welcome :)

I am currently walking on my lunch break. Food choices haven't been awesome (I'm broke) but portions have been acceptable.

I got my workout in this morning. I made it a longer one, since I won't be working out tomorrow.

I need to go eat some more and have a glass of water!

Didn't get in my morning walk, but thinking about an afternoon stroll. I did mega Mommy shopping since 8 this morning though... so I've been on my feet all day. Had soup and salad for lunch and got in plenty of fluids and ALL my vitamins (BluKitten). ;) This roller coaster weather sucks though. I hate to go to the gym when it's decent out, but afraid I'll get poured on.

Thank you, NRS. I appreciate that very much!

Did a 45 minute hoof thru the woods this morning, then walked to an appt. in town. I'm on a fruit kick, lately... which is good. Hitting the floor for some toning a bit later. Good news: My lower abs (such as they are... I had emergency C-section... vertical, get-him-out-quickly, type) are sore... Yay!

I just read an article that hiking in the woods is a much better work out than the treadmill using incline. The instability of the terrain makes your body work harder and differently. SO you did awesome!

I have been going up and down the stairs A LOT today! My legs and butt are hurting from it!

Busy stressful weekend ahead. Husband bought (and I ate) something wretched for lunch. However, rather than moping around dwelling on my mistake, I got off my ass and walked a couple miles.

Now to clean for company tomorrow, and mentally prepare for the birthday party this evening.

PL1 that is fantastic that you got out and walked! At least you countered the damage of the lunch. Don't ever let yourself feel guilty for enjoying something bad now and then. You were smart and did the right thing! I am so proud of you!

My event went good. I finished. The course was next to the lake so the cool wind felt great.

I am signing in to the bootcamp.

And I am signing off Lit so I can go do a 30-minute walk before breakfast!
