....dead or on hiatus...here's a new one.....

Setting is the parallel Earth of the Harry Turtledove series American Empire ....between the World Wars....that is.....but the main characters are different from those created by Mr. Turtledove.....

Bio coming up...

Felix Lasalle

Name- Felix Antoine Lasalle
Age- 32
Profession: Professor of History, Raleigh College
Birthplace: Raleigh, North Carolina
Marital Status: Widower
Politics: Radical Liberal
Nationality: Confederate of Huguenot (French Protestant) descent
Interests: Women, Liquor, Politics, History, and the Arts
Social Status: Old Money

From a wealthy, elite Raleigh family, Lasalle married young and lost his wife to childbirth during the Great War, while he was away in Tennessee and Kentucky. Since he only had leave once during that war, and it was some time later from the child's conception, it was a double jolt: proof of his late wife's infidelity to him, as well as the death of her itself. Since he wasn't particularly faithful himself, and since he loved her very much, he didn't openly shame her or bastardize the deceased child (she followed her mother quickly). Since then, and since the Great War, he has become a very cynical fellow. Then again, this has helped him to see past Jake Featherston's rhetoric and recognize the danger presented by such a man.

He still chases the ladies, mainly delighting in the pursuit of black, mulatto, and quadroon women, as well as occasional holidays in Cuba (a Confederate territory). The very idea of such women being persecuted by the Freedom Party has him up in arms. He very much fears what will happen if Featherston achieves power, but he doesn't trust the ruling Whigs, so he has switched to the Radical Liberals, the traditional opposition party in the CSA.

Ironically, since he doesn't usually dally with women of his class, not everyone knows of his philanderings, even if they suspect it. Gentlemen generally wink at such things and ladies feign ignorance, especially those who vainly hope to snare him as a husband (because of his inheritance and his social status). His public image is that of a "respectable widower" with some irritatingly progressive views, which they swallow because of his family connections.

He is also called Dr. Lasalle, since he has a Ph.D. from Duke University.

Interested, if I can get someone else involved. Perhaps my ex, though I don't know. I owe you that much for being honest and nice to me, anyway.

Yeah, I'm interested. Maybe I can get Chris into it, too.....he's the one who got me interested in Harry Turtledove's stuff. Before that, I read absolutely no sci-fi, to be honest.

Perhaps so.....I don't know if I could SRP with an ex or not, but it's a thought. Glad that he has influenced your literary tastes for the better.

Miranda Worth

Name: Miranda Worth
Nationality: Confederate
Age: 28
Occupation: Socialite/Widow
Politics: Whig
State: North Carolina
Height: 5 feet even
Weight: 100 lbs.
Eye Color: blue
Hair Color: blonde

Miranda has not really attempted to remarry. She prefers to have affairs with politicians and robber barons, knowing that she will have more influence that way. Her political leanings are more conservative, but she is lately interested in two men of different political tendencies, one of them a Radical Liberal, the other from the more extreme Freedom Party.

Sounds good. Now for the Freedom Party rival, perhaps. Who will that be?

Hoping to get Chris to play the man in question.....will see....can we start soon? Pouts.... :catroar:

I appreciate that, hon, but I can't really put myself in a Freedom Party politician's shoes. Someone else would have to play that kind of person. I just can't relate. Now, a British diplomat in the CSA at the time would be great, especially since I am very fond of Harry Turtledove's work. My apologies. :rose:

Well, there's always the British Silver Shirts or the Action Francaise, right? Or an American diplomat, for that matter. ;) :cathappy:

Sir William Phipps

Thanks for the suggestion, Alexis.

Sir William Phipps is the British resident in Raleigh, North Carolina. Not a Silver Shirt per se, he is still a sympathiser to some of their goals. He wants to see a Great Britain that is strong as ever. If a strong Confederacy helps that goal, he can stomach some things, but he is a bit alarmed by some aspects of Mr. Featherston's agenda. The man seems more than a mere nationalist like Mr. Churchill. That he can stomach. He bears an eerie and disturbing parallel to Tsar Mikhail in Russia, who is a notorious anti-Semite. Except, of course, here it is the Negroes and not the Jews who are the scapegoats. Blaming an ethnic group strikes Sir William as simplistic and unjust. Instead, it's best to lay all of the guilt on the government's shoulders, since it was the government who lost the war.

Welcum aboard, Chris and Alexis. I hope to see some more people here. Anyone else interested, that is. We have two men, but we need more men and women, I think. This is not a closed type of thread. It's an alternate history/political one, so it needs to be more crowded to work.

This looks like a very interesting thread, yet sadly, I haven't read the books. I even tried to Wiki it to see if I could gather enough to play. However, I do think I am going to pick up some of Turtledove's books.

Cool....though I wonder what Mr. Turtledove would say if he knew that some of his fan base came from porn writer recommendations. :D ;)

My favorites are definitely the series going from How Few Remain, which is a stand-alone novel, to the series following, such as The Great War, American Empire, and Settling Accounts. Though The Guns of the South and the Balance/Worldwar series are pretty neat, too.

If you should read up and change your mind, feel free to join in.
