"Similar Stories" Question

After posting a new story for the Nude Day contest, I suddenly received a couple of comments about another story I published a year ago. Turns out it was featured as a "similar story" to this new one. The tags were quite unalike. I've reviewed other writers' stories, their tags and similar stories' tags and on occasion, none of the tags are alike. Sometimes the similar stories aren't even in the same category.

Two questions: How are similar stories determined? Is there any way to get a list of other writers' stories that have mine listed as similar?

I'll apologize in advance if this issue has already been covered in prior posts.

Everything that is known about Similar Stories I think is discussed in this thread. Similar Stories are determined by favoring - they are the stories that people who favored your story also favored. There's no way to get a list of other writers' stories that are listed as similar to yours.

As 8Letters said, this issue has been hashed out before in that previous thread, and if I were you I'd scroll to the end and look at HectorBidon's answer to the problem. I think he nailed it.

When a story is first published, I think there is an alternative method of choosing Similar Stories, because Similar Stories lists appear as soon as the story is published, and there obviously is no way at that time to build the list based on common favorites, because the story has few if any favorites. I think it's based on tags, but this method is quickly phased out by the common favorite method once favorites come in.

You cannot get a comprehensive list of stories that list yours as similar, but if you check other stories on YOUR similar stories list you may find that your story is listed on their lists. But be aware that popular stories will come first, so it's much less likely if your story is new that it will appear on the similar stories lists of other stories, especially other stories that have been around for a while and built longer lists of favorites.

I'm going to guess that it's an algorithm, because I don't want to think about it.

It's often a nice free laugh, though. You know what I mean? Don't you do a double-take once in a while and smile at what Lit decides is similar to your story, or what they think you "might also enjoy?"

I got one today for the just-published chapter of Tad's current novel, and the description of the Similar Story was:

What would the world be like if nymphomaniac women ruled?

What, indeed?
