I grew up just outside New York City and then came to the Washington, DC area. I have lived here for 30 years now.

QUESTION: That well known saying from the 1960's?

Something to do with hippies and flower power?......Is there anyone around who have experienced that period in our cultural history?

I heard that those days were really cool? What was it all about? And where did it all go?

Hello all and Greetings from the Old Dominion State!

The fact that our state of Virginia is just over two hundred years old would make it the "Young Dominion State" anywhere else in the world is pretty funny in and of itself. Nevertheless, we are proud of it. Up here in the northern part of the state, we're a suburb of Washington DC.

Sienna, I've been wanting to respond to your poll now for the entire two weeks that I've been on the forum, I just figured out how to reset my password so I could post replys. It's an interesting poll, thanks for getting it started.

On the day that I was born, I must have realised that being "alive" and "awake" was important from then on.
I was nearly never here!.....both me and Mum were critical and on top of that I decided to enter the world 6 weeks too early.

I never ever sleep more than 2 or 3 hours a day unless I'm really ill....(or drunk out of my skull!)......I wake up as bright as a button and go on until I drop.

Done me no harm..... They said I was "hyperactive" as a child.

I say, I have conditioned myself to live life to the full. I very rarely remember any dreams and I also cat nap too for 15-20 minutes daily which I suppose re-charges my energy or something. A bit of an expert now at power-napping...

But I have a fantastic memory for recalling early childhood events as far back as say 2 or 3 years old with great detail.

Ok.....I'm weird....but atleast I live a LONGER CONSCIOUS LIFE than most people do.....

I wish I could get by with so little sleep. There's so much more time for all the wonderful things in this world. I'd love to have all that additional time to read more, spend time with loved ones, be creative, travel...why, I'd even have time to enlarge my rose garden!

I have a friend that's a PhD who is like that too. She has as much fun as anyone else, she just had an extra three or four hours a day to study (or whatever else) when she was young cause she didn't need much sleep.

Other than participating in Literotica, what do you do with your extra time? (Please pardon me if that's too personnal a question or I've wandered too far off the string theme I'm a newbie).

I turned it into a socio-political statement.......because we are ALL too ready to condemn rather than accept peoples individualities in this world....

I may be an idealist too.....and quite often idealists are seen as dreamers ( I don't sleep enough to dream by the way ) and people with unreachable goals....... but they are reachable...it needs us all to respect one and other first and then understand our stations in life and where we actually are and what we are......

Our differences are not just individual, but they are cultural, religious, racial and political....we even condemn on the status of wealth, as some of us live happy and prosperous whilst others starve to death through a combination of other things mentioned previously.

We also need to respect nature too....because it is the dealer of the cards in the game of life.......we have to learn to play that game.....

So......enough..........lets vote! ( this time not the weakest link)

i've traveled just about everywhere there is 2 travel in this shrinking world of ours........and i'd kind of decided i was a world citizen/student..........then came 11 september.......and i know now, more than ever that i'm from the USA...right now i call the state of wisconsin home. ---------by the way sie,there definately was a time i was a hippy......after i got out of the USMC(no!,not the University of Science Music and Culture.........the US Marine Corps , and a 2nd place finish in the Southeast Asia war games......hey! we were leadin' when I left!) I spent 2 years wandering from commune 2 commune out in the southwest part of the US.........I think the life and the most excellant self medication I received kept my head from breaking(ref:Southeast Asia war games).Anyway.......from what I can remember ...it was a great time 2 be alive.....and if u r interested sie, i do have some tales to tell.>life however moves on.........and i am no longer a hippy. My Mum said she rememberrs the hippies when she was very young and thats all. Just a short memory.

I became curious by listening to some of my friends who call themselves "eco-warriors". They live in communes on demo sites to protest against building motorways (freeways) and runways...but nothing like the "real" hippies of the 1960's and 1970's. I watched movies from that time too, and some of them was about "huge" rock concerts where people used to live together in fields, sharing everything they had between each other.....I think "Woodstock" was one of them, and a lot of protest songs about the Vietnam War.

We have a huge concert here in UK, Glastonbury. But its just a huge three day event held in a field and all it is really is an open theatre held outside in a muddy field, commercially exploited too, because it was really expensive to attend.

The hippies didn't seem to bother about how expensive things were? They shared or something really cool like that?
