Y'know, been here for several years, had a personal goal of submitting 200 stories, nearly there too but no longer see the need.

Why this site allows ANONYMOUS to piss all over us writers is beyond me.

It's this site's loss in my opinion.

Respond if u care to but I won''t be back.

Piss all over each other for all I care.

In another life.

I understand--but just push the delete comment button. It's the best revenge. Your stories are fine.

Leaving just lets 'Anonymous' win. It gives them power over you, making you change your goals.

Listening to "anonymous" is just stupid. There are always people who shit over anything nice they see, really anything they see. Walking away will just let them win.

Was Prompted to Explain

Hadn't intended to return, but a few Lit friends contacted me after having seen this. So I thought ya'll deserved a better explanation.

While the post was made in haste, and in a frame of mind that was not self-serving, I feel I have expressed my true feelings. I'm a decent guy and try to please others to a fault, disregarding my own life. But I can see I've over-indulged here.

There are "fences to mend" so to speak, projects ignored. And my employment is in question, prompting more stress. Don't see how I can focus here as my life disintegrates around me.

Maybe better times will follow and I'll be back, and with a vengeance - a half-hearted lol.

I won't stop writing, and have every intention of ending a few series (Castle Keep, Color Blind, and More of Daddy's Girls) to name them. May even periodically post others, but any writing I'll do will be for me and shared, not written for "the masses" as I've found myself doing.

Thanks for your support, it's greatly appreciated. Especially SR71 <shakes, my man>.

Okay, so I may revisit to see your responses, but I really do need to shift my focus to other aspects of my life.

Best of luck and happiness to all.

Dude! I think that's the key - writing for yourself. My Earth Day story was written for my warped sense of humor, and it's paying the price. I'm afraid to go look at the comments, after hearing they were rather terrible from others. (LW category, surprise surprise.)

Good luck with your pursuits, and please do write for yourself and post here, perhaps under a new alt, so you can do what you want without worrying about sullying your reputation. Or start a new reputation!

Write on, bro.

And I'm glad you did! You have to know how truly sorry I am to see you take a step back. I hope you just think of it as that. A step back.

And as you also know, I'm the last to advise on dealing with writing, but you really do have to write for yourself. It's okay to be a little selfish. In the end, without pay and with the fleeting reward of a good rating and/or feedback, it's all you have really.

I hope the job scare is only a momentary thing, and that the rest of your life sorts itself out. Of course, real life is always more important than cyber-life, so live it there, and save this for playtime.

I think the anonymous feedback attribute should be changed.
I get lots of emails from people who say they liked my stories, but they
don't bother to vote or leave a public comment.
Why wouldn't they? Would it kill them to?
It's confusing and fucked up.

Would they be likely to vote or leave a comment any way the rules are changed? I write mostly in a category where readers don't either comment or vote--they come to read what they want and then move in. The reader isn't really under any obligation at all to respond beyond what suits them. If you have a system that doesn't permit them to read without responding, nine times out of nine and a half they just won't read.

Okay, well, I can understand your stress over it. But were you aware you could turn off anonymous feedback?

I know you probably won't now, but I'll post this anyway for anyone else feeling the same way.

Go to your Literotica Control Panel (the same area where you'd submit your stories)

Click on Options.

Click the circle (radio button) beside "No" for "Allow anonymous feedback?"

Click the Save Changes button.

Now, anyone who wants to comment on your stories or send you private feedback has to supply a user name (for public feedback) and email (for private feedback). Yes, this applies to stories already posted as well (I just checked for myself.)

Sorry to see you go, AS, but it is understandable.

Hi there. I don't usually hang out in this forum but I read this thread and wanted to toss in a few words.

First off, AS, sorry to hear you are feeling so glum about the Anonymous feedback. I'm sure there are some nasty folks out there who insult just because they can. Not having read your work, I can't vouch for the quality of it.

Perhaps you need to ask yourself why you write? If you are, in fact, just doing it for yourself, as a hobby, then the comments of a few wingnuts should mean nothing to you. If, however, your goal is to write for readers and be appreciated, then maybe it's time to take your writing more seriously? Maybe you want to start submitting to real publications? If so, be prepared for much more ego kicking than you'll ever get here.

Try smiling after your fiftieth rejection letter. LOL.

This is a medium that allows anyone, of virtually any talent level, to publish stories to a wide readership. This is a privilege but it comes with some unpleasant side effects. Publish your work in a magazine or book and you won't have to deal with the vitriolic, anonymous comments but you'll have to work a lot harder to actually get published. It's all a trade off.

I'm not exactly sure why you have set a goal of 200 stories? I'm curious about this. Personally, I'd rather set a goal of writing the best possible stories I can, regardless of number. I probably write a dozen (non erotic) stories a year - tops.

I've read many stories on Lit that I've never bothered to comment on, good or bad. I'll probably start commenting more but in the beginning I came just to read a bit and be entertained. If I'd been required to vote or comment, I would have left the site. As a published, mainstream writer, I rarely receive any feedback on the stories I write, except from family, friends and members of my writing group - this doesn't bother me at all. My reward is publication, that's enough of an ego stroke for me.

Good luck in the future. If you love to write, you will continue. Don't let the bastards get you down.

I apologize greatly for your experiences and I'm not going to sit here and splatter my opinion as I really don't know all the details.

Don't let this get you down. Incorporate all that negative energy into your writings, pull all the positive you can from this experience.

Good luck, dear.

This all makes sense. How about at least an anonymous emails received tally counter
that would be shown right on the page?
This way people could stay anonymous, and people like me who have
a weird fascination with numbers would be satisfied as well.

You aren't being more self indulgent than those bashing you for cheap thrills, indulge, indulge.

 Hugs...I don't know what I would do without you! Your stories are wonderful and you should know that. Please don't let someone who is too much of coward to run you off. I do appreciate you and all of the wonderful guidance you've given me. Please stay in touch.:heart:

I never get really negative feedback, just low votes. I suspect abusive feedback may be the result of the section you post stories in. loving wives seems to be full of readers who take the stories and the author very personally.

I used to watch Journey to the Centre of the Earth every week.:)

Good luck with your future.

Taking a break from Lit for reasons of RL is quite understandable.

Turning tail and running because some mystery poo-slingers pelt your stories - that's dumb. Then they win.

You're a fine writer...C'mon back when things mellow out...Take care out there. :D

I've never understood why you must log in to make a comment on the forum board but don't have to log in to make a comment to a story. If readers had to log in, there'd be less bullshit that happens on this site. Too many people are brave when hiding behind their anonymity.

I'd like to see a rule change where is a reader wants to make a comment on a writer's story, they must join the site and log in who they are. Otherwise, if they don't want to join, they can still read the story and they can still vote.

I don't get it. I don't understand why this site is like this. I feel as though the ownership cares more about the rights of the readers than she does the feelings of the writers.

Maybe someone can enlighten me.

but since it's votes that really count maybe you should be logged in to vote? If you don't like a comment you can either delete it or just not accept anon feedback.

Yeah, I think that's the way to go. You can't vote on a story unless you are logged in, which leaves out all the readers who read, but judging by the extremely low percentage of hits versus votes, not many readers vote any way.

I think most of the votes, at least from my perspective, are from those who bash what I write.

I've have always written that this could be a much better site. It's time we writers took more control of it and demanded what we want from management. No one wants to spend hours, days, and weeks writing a story only to see it bashed by some unknown anonymous asshole.
