Jesus that was close.

I went in to check on Critter and found her out completely. We're talking cold and unresponsive. (Her breathing was once every two seconds which if you know cats is more than just a tad slow.) It scared the shit out of me.

I picked her furry butt up and carried her out into the living room where I stretched her out on my chest under a towel. She started to wake up a bit. I let her sit up and look around. She is completely blasted. (Her pupils are blown like I have rarely seen.)

We're making her move and not allowing her to sleep. It's almost as though she was O.D.'d on the Anaesthetic. (Which wouldn't surprise me with her size and how weak she was becoming.)

It's going to be a long touch and go night I'm sure.

She is not allowed to fall asleep for a while, she must sit up and she must walk occasionally.

Damn but this reminds me of working with some of my druggies in the hospital. At least with Critter she doesn't know better than to piss on the floor.

Right now she is with my wife on the couch. She doesn't want to be held, she keeps struggling to the edge of the couch and wants to get down. Every time she does she walks for a short distance then tries to lay down. Each time she does my wife picks her up and makes her walk again until she just stops. Then she returns to the couch where it all starts over again after about ten minutes.

Critter wants to sleep but we won't let her for a while yet. We want to make sure the anaesthetic has worn off some.

I think if she can get past the drugs then she has a chance.

If she doesn't survive though it won't be because she didn't have the chance, and she'll know she was loved to the end.

(The other cats keep coming up to her and nuzzling her. It's almost as though they know what we're trying to do and are trying to help.)

Well she is holding her own. In fact she is now laying on her belly instead of her side. I think the worst is over.

My wife on the other hand is passed out on the futon. I'll be signing off in a second or two to retake my place beside critter. (She may be comfortable but I certainly am not.) I might make it to the bed tonight but I doubt it.

Oh, and I was wondering, have you checked out her off-spring to see if they have the same claw "mutation" that Critter has? If they do, they might end up with the same problem later. Genetics is a bitch.

Okay an update.

Critter, and I had a long night. This morning I gave her the first dose of Amoxicilin. I followed this with 3cc's of water because she hadn't been drinking. Two hours later I gave her another 3cc's of water. (She isn't drinking or eating.)

My wife and I went for a quick shopping trip and we picked up some Nutritional Paste high in calories. I desolved some of this in her water and gave her another 3cc's.

This has been going on all day, every two hours I give her 3cc's of water mixed with the nutritional paste.

Around noon she started fighting me a little bit. She is still laying under the Futon but laying on her belly instead of her side. She raises her head when I scratch her instead of just laying there. (The last time I gave her some water she gave me a little gift. A couple of spoonfulls of highly concentrated urine in my lap.)

Right now she is laying under the Futon and giving me a dirty look. She seems to know her next dose of Amoxicilin and water is due soon.

Hopefully she'll soon start eating and drinking on her own.

The other cats on the other hand are moving closer to her. Scrapper gave her a couple of licks this afternoon. I'm hoping they close ranks soon, she needs the loving.

None of her kids have thumbs and after yesterday I have checked all of their Dew Claws. They are doing fine. (Thanks for the thoughts though.)

Yes I know I seem to be obssesing over Critter, but she is family.

She has a long ways to go but she seems to be getting a touch stronger. We shall see what happens in the next few days.

Now as for her kittens showing her loving. They haven't dealt with a sick cat before so they don't know what is going on. All three of the kittens are wandering around singing their being unhappy. They are slowly getting closer to her.

Well it's been touch and go. Yesterday she received two doses of her Amoxicilin. Today so far she has received one and about six cc's of water along with 3 cc's of the Nutrition Paste. She is still very weak and unsteady although she is fighting back a little bit. Unfortunately tonight I noticed she is congested, wheezing through the nose. That with her overall weakness is not a good sign.

In about an hour I will give her the next dose of Anti-biotic as well as another cc or so of the nutrition paste. (I did the conversion and she should be getting roughly 7 cc's a day when she isn't eating.)

I have the feeling that tomorrow is the make or break day. If she survives through tomorrow then she may just pull through.
