Show us your pets..

i have wanted a kitten for a long time, and Master's nickname for me is kitten it seemed appropriate.

on my last visit, the first full day i was there was designated "kitten day". we first went to the local spca where we found this adorable cream colored fluffball that loved everyone and was very playful. upon further inspection we discovered that niether he, nor any of the other kittens were available for release that day. as we sadly put the friendly little kitten (with a horrible animal shelter name i might add) back into his cage, we plotted out next move.

Master called the next closest spca to see if they had any kittens available. whether they did or didnt i dont know, but what they did have was a nasty virus that relocated most of its cat population into foster care leaving the remainder of the cats in quarintine. so that was out.

the next step was to try the local pet store. there they had two adorable grey kittens... who hated life and everybody around them. suffice to say they would not be child friendly cats, and were left unadopted in the pet store.

not really wanting to drive the notable distance to the next pet store, we hit the papers where we found high breed high class kittens for hundreds of dollars. not exactly what we were looking for. begining to lose hope, Master and i finally spotted two ads for kittens that only cost *cue hallelulla chorus* 10 dollars. except they were out in farm country.

after working the phones a bit to secure an appointment with the woman out on the farm we were ready to go out searching again. (after a quick break for some neccessary entertainment/stress relief. what? it had been a long day) we got in the car and proceeded to drive the almost hour and a half, braving traffic and poorly marked country roads, untill we reached this farm.

the lady was very happy to see us and welcomed us into her home where there were two little kittens. i was ready to take one of them when she asked if we wanted to go uin the barn and see the rest. *shrug* we came this far, might as well. we walked out to the barn where we saw a wire cage that held seven or eight ten week old kittens.

one cuaght my eye and when i asked to hold her the lady happily agreed. the moment she was held against me chest she began purring happily. i was hooked. the ten dollar exchange took place and we had ourselves a kitten.

i named her journey, to reflect both the trip it took to get her as well as the journey that Master and i have made to get to this point. and what a journey it was.

here is a picture of the newest member of our family, decked out in ropes as is appropriate, dontcha think?

We're in the middle of looking for a place to move that allows pets. I want a dog while K's in Iraq. K's always wanted a beagle, and I hear they're hyper. I figure I'll tie it to D and let them run each other out. :p

Truthfully, I think a dog will be good for D. Something to take care of and something to keep him busy while his daddy's away. And I want something that'll bark if necessary.

I'm also gonna get the girls a cat.

Aawwwwww. She is too precious. I am so envious, first that you have a cuddly kitten and secondly cuz you and Homburg have your own baby. I want a baby with Raven now.

Oh Sir .... may I have a kitten too????? :D

journey is in VA though. i cant have her up in ny for multipe reasons (home, school, allergies in my family, existing dogs, etc)

She's adorable, and very affectionate. She's also an attention whore, so she takes after her momma that way :D

Every beagle I've ever known has been hyper and at least half crazy.

I'm loving all the pictures!

Last night as I was violently sobbing, my "money" cat thought she'd try to make me feel better. Just as she was coming over I sniffed really loud. I swear I could feel her lift off the bed in fright. LMAO!

She kind of looks like this:

Only she has some fur missing now around her ears when she has scratched herself bloody a few times.

She's my furry heart, my lap cat, my purring soul and my consolation in dark times.

Bella is my 5 year old merle Great Dane. She is a total lap dog and has no idea she's small.

Wyatt Earp is my 4 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi and is the smartest dog I've ever owned. He is also my hearing assistance dog.

We have three kitties, Princess Tabitha, Rocco, and Sage.

The pictures are in order of name. ^_^ Enjoy the cuteness!!

I've heard that corgis can be really smart dogs. Is it a characteristic of the breed?

Yes, but it can work against them as if they don't have a job or are not stimulated, they can become very headstrong and lazy...much like any herding breed.

I couldn't have said it better. That very well describes the 17 years I had with Orbit. He was my best buddy.

Thanks everyone for sharing your photos and stories. Awwwwwww.... Melts my heart just a bit.

Sounds like my son. I've mentioned in other threads that he's ADHD. He never stops moving, even at night (we have nightmare problems with him). I think having him walk the dog routinely would be good for him, but we'll see. Truthfully I like labs and german shepherds best of all dogs.

Beyond that, whatever we get, WILL NOT be pure bread. Something from the humane society.

im not an atten- oh, who am i kidding?

No one on this board. :p

Here is my cat Maya.
She is a real diva, queen of our village square which is directly in front of our house.
People may use the square but she is reigning there!!
One time a car had to drive backwards to be able to drive around her because she refused to go out of the way... there is very few traffic here and cars have to drive veeery slowly, so she feels she has the right to stay where she lies...

We have some zen-buddhists here, they say she is a buddha because she is so "here and now"... :D

She is also very loving and caring! Held my hand for about 15 minutes literally when I was crying loud and wild at my fathers death. She hates getting touched at her feet soles but that day she sat with me, looked in the same direction as I and had put her forepaw in my open hand.

She is my furry child besides my son...

Willow, an 8-pound, nearly two-year-old shelter cat.

I live alone and wanted a cat with an outgoing personality to keep me company and my panic attacks at bay. The story of her coming to live with me reads like a fairy tale.

Willow looks very much like our third kitty! Which is to say beautiful.

That's odd, every beagle I've known is quite the opposite. Probably what you've exposed to are hunters versus pets. My beagle is so laid back, I teasingly call her Switzerland.

They weren't all hunters, but every one was from serious hunt stock. One in particular was so much the hunter that he didn't need training. He acted like a hunting beagle by pure instinct. His owners also had no idea what to do with him, so he was crazy from boredom as much as anything else.

Any working dog is going to be crazy without stimulation so I have zero patience for people that get dogs and then don't know what to do with them due to lack of breed research. For instance, tons of people around here get labs, and I tell you, without proper training and stimulation, labs are HORRIBLE because their energy levels are so high. I actually refused to board labs when I owned a boarding kennel because so many people simply got them and stuck them in the back yard with no guidance which makes for some really awful dogs to be around. Not to mention people bring them in on those damn flexi-leashes which is beyound stupid as the dogs just bounce off the walls with no control...argh! Flexi-leashes should be banned from existence.

I really hate when people RID of them because of those instincts too. People are always giving away herding dogs around here because they nip at the heels of children...well, duh, they HERD THINGS! All of my rescued great danes were given away by their owners because they got "too big". Well what the fuckola do ya expect, LOL.
