Should the Israelis take out that fat bastard Arafat?

Exactly what good is he doing for his people? The only thing keeping him alive is international pressure on the Israelis.

I mean come on....he's been in charge forever. The terrorism continues...the Palestinians are no closer to peace than they were twenty years ago. He talks nice to the cameras then talks shit about Israel to his own people in their language when he thinks no one is filming him. He has no control over the Palestinians who are rioting and doing suicide bombings. At least the Israelis change their leadership every once in a while.

Why are the Palestinians sticking with this nag? Overthrow his ass and get somebody that can negotiate peace and get control of the population before the Jews do it for you, for Christ sakes. Loyalty should only go so far, then...adios. Get results, or get the fuck out.

Well, I have to take full advantage of the few errors you make.

The question you pose is a good one, I tend to avoid the Israeli/Palestinian question, on this board and elsewhere. For the record, I think the Palestinians have a right to their own state and wish israel would acknowledge this.

My information is not exactly up to date or as in-depth as others.

I think not haveing a state, and thus a consistency and a certain degree of infrastructure hinders the ability of Palestinians to make a change. I'm not sure I would lay a great deal of blame on Arafat though, he is stuck between working out a peace deal and maintaining credibility with a large contingent that would just as well blow Israel off the face of the planet.

Among would-be Palestine there does not exist a significant number of young politicians, as I said, the lack of a state hinders this. With no true political system in place, many men who would be involved in peace brokering and government function take to the streets in protest or violence(or both).

As much as Israel may want to eliminate Arafat and let the ensueing anarchy allow them to snatch more land, I think any mfurther provocation on the part of Israel will be met with disdain from the international community. Their behavior in the last 2 years has been unacceptable, rather like a spoiled child in my eyes.

Its an enormous problem. It would be interesting to see what atmosphere would develop in the absence of Arafat but I suspect he is there until he dies or is killed.

Arafat Bastad

Arafat has, for a very long time, spoken out of both sides of his mouth, even in the same day. One one hand he preaches peace, hobnobs with the Israelis, the US and other Western Worlds. On the other he advocates violence and killing openly, even while a cease-fire is on.

Arafat is just plain dangerous, and has been for some time. That's he's now the spokesman for a legitimate organization makes him all the more so.

But, who does get to take his place. I swear, I'm all for the "Kill the bastards over and over again until their people put someone there who isn't one" school of thought.

He's proven he can't get it done. Barak (sp?) offered him what was regarded as a pretty damn good deal at camp David last year and he turned it down.

I don't know all the ins and outs of it, that's one reason I started the thread. Just seems like he's got a dictatorial grip on his people. He's been in charge for decades, and I don't see much progress. One of the reasons the Israelis take out the people they think are perpetrating the bombings is because he never keeps them locked up.

True

For years, Arafat has been playing a game of both ends against the middle. He uses violence to get concessions from the Israelis, which he then pockets and returns to violence to try to get more concessions. He overplayed his hand when he turned down the deal at Camp David because he demonstrated to the world that he will accept nothing less than an Israeli national suicide.

I don't think that the issue for Israel is any longer whether or not to agree to having a Palestinian state. The question is, how do we have one that will be willing to live in peace with Israel, without trying to destroy it? Some doubt that this is possible.

Arafat

He should of been taken out last year. He turned down a great deal for Palistine land. He dosnt want peace. He is a terrorist who cant be trusted.

I dont know how the bastard has escaped the dirt nap so long. My bet is the Palestinians waste him.

Actually, he will be nobody, that the news media (remeber them?) will not learn about for months.

Arafat is irrelevant. (George Will)

Arafat is irrelevant... except as a martyr. More fuel for the war machine. But I agree he is as useless as tits on a bull.
