I don't watch sports of any kind except the Olympics, and when I'm with other people that are talking about it (especially men), I sometimes feel left out.

Are sports and masculinity intertwined?

It's a time for men to hang out.

It doesn't matter if you don't like cricket or rugby, it's a good time with the boys.

I know blokes who enjoy backgammon and chess and cards.

It's not about image, it's about spending quality time with your mates.

Good then we are in agreement that you're all just pissing in your own faces with these lame ass responses to someone not worth the time/effort of the high and mighty....BRILLIANT CHAPS YOU ARE!!!

Fucking morons....no wonder you call yourselves liberals

I am the first man to post in this thread.

Men should play sports from time to time and not just watch. All humans should.

maybe the question then is how do you define masculine. i think it is evolving.

Well, it is always evolving. Our current concept of masculinity developed during the post war period. In the eighteenth century, the European dandy was the ideal male.

There are certain "dont's" involved in hanging out.

I think it's more than that, though. Sports is something that every man is "supposed" to know. If someone asks me how some such team is doing, and I have to say "I don't follow sports", I feel a little embarrassed about it.

I dig men who aren't into sports. Not that you'd care, blobby boy.

But the men who aren't into sports that I've known are usually made to feel weird about it by men who are into sports.

I did my own study on a group of men 40+

Should men watch sport?: Yes

Why?: Because it's fun.

Why is it fun?: Because it is.

What do you do on boxing day?: Watch cricket.

Study over, blob.

That's the thing; why are sports elevated above things like politics, which are far more important?
