Should American Troops Participate in PeaceKeeping Operations

On the other hand, Tony Blair has just said that in January, Somalia, Sudan, and oh, already forgot, are next on the list for military involvement. This begins to stretch us and we are already weak, our military having been cut back by the winning of the cold war.

This emboldens North Korea, China, and Russia, who will see, and are looking actively to get us out of thier part of the world in order that they can impose a few re-unifications.

I think we must get someone else, say the UN and some multi-national forces other than our own bogged down, or I saw an excellent piece not too long ago on how to break up Afganistan and placeing different regions under the control of countires with matching ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

We did kinda create this situation when we forced the creation of this country.

That's funny. It's been reported today in our press that it's Bush's intention to target Somalia, Sudan and Aden (the one you forgot) next.

As the Afghanis do not want foreign troops on their land I don't see much chance of anyone taking part in a peace-keeping force, unless it's done under duress. The "we won't give you aid unless you let us occupy your country" sort of duress.

The UK has already announced that the 6000 odd troops it was holding in reserve will not now be going into Afghanistan and the Northern Alliance, backed by other Moslem countries, have made it quite clear in talks with our Foreign Secretary that they want to be left alone to sort out their own future...

Oh hum! Here we go again.

Anyway I thought the main policy is to get bin Laden "dead or alive" not to go around policing countries who don't want us in the first place.

:(

I think the government adds a little "color" to our media. They can't report on what exactly might be going on in Afghanistan because it's a threat to our fighting folks.

I really don't think that Russia is in any position to try and reunify anything. Last time I checked they were still in a world of financial trouble. And I know a few people that like in Ukraine, and they tell me that they don't feel like they're seperate from Russia. I guess if Russia really wanted to take some of it's pieces back it might not be a huge deal.

Not even going to comment on China...if America wasn't the "Great Satan" with our consumer culture, China's industry would start flying out the window.

I don't actually know if I've said anything at all in this post...um....Bush is dumb...yeah, quality stuff there. :)

Well...I'm allowed to hate the president because I "threw my vote away" voting for the odd man out.

Conspiracy theories are right up my alley...but Nader must not be able to sleep at night. :)

I said on another thread that the USA, Russia, and the UK should be excluded from any peacekeeping force because of the perception that they would be "occupation forces" instead of peacekeepers.

Even Isreal would be a better choice for peacekeepers than the US, UK or Russia.
