Does anyone else find the 'search all posts by this user' an invasion of privacy?

After receiving a yahoo message regarding a post I made on a thread, TOTALLY nothing to do with the said person... I'm insulted!!

No other site I know of allows others to trace 'every' message you've left.

It shouldn't be allowed.

Quite so Boxy, if someone wants to know all about you they should do the leg work themselves... Single thread replies out of context and out of date, can be misleading.

SOOoo true!!!

I was berated by posts I made in a thread made for people from 'my' country, by a foreigner checking up on me.

I can't do anything or say anything, so it seems.

COOL!

I wouldn't have known that was possible, if you two hadn't discussed it here.

Hmmm  Now who do I want to check up on?

Whom?

LOL - sorry, thought the fact that you got berrated by someone in a PM for an old post was hilarious.

I don't really care to tell the truth, I have had worse happen than someone seeing the truth of my opinions, there were rumours that I held wild orgies in University ;).

This is a public forum and I am aware that my comments will be seen by someone. If they want to go through the 2000 or so posts, well, its their trip. I mean take Abs for example, she is famous for stalking me. She even quotes me whenever possible, but hey, if she has nothing better to do all day while she sits around in her curlers and bunny slippers, and if it makes her happy, who am I to stop her fun. :D

I use the history thing or whatever it's called, loads of times. Usually to find thrilling, pithy stuff that I wrote (obviously).

But I also found what date the site started (Lauren's history) and other interesting items by using this facility.

I'd like to know how it's an invasion of privacy. Didn't you want anyone to read what you'd written?

This is where the aphorism "never apologise" comes in. It actually means don't say anything that you later find you need to apologise for. (don't write anything down that you don't want anyone else to read)

Perfectly worded. How I feel exactly.

my take

I like it cuz it helps me find stuff I said long ago.

I also like it cuz when someone says something interesting, i can go see whatelse they might have said that would be interesting.

I have seen the 'see all posts by this user' on other forums.

I *don't* like it when my boyfriend goes threw just to see what I've written all day, even though he says he doesn't. Not that I'd say anything that I didn't want him to read, but I find it annoying.

Other people that I don't know, 'stalking' me, to see what I've said about various things- I don't mind that.

I like this feature, too. I didn't find it until about two months ago and since then have wasted too much time reading back through some of the crap that I and others have written. Good larf, though! :D

Lou - off to search the boxy one's posts. :p
