sherlock

What about Jeremy Brett?

they were all watchable - but, for me, the new guys take it to places the others simply couldn't reach. i preferred reading the original stories to watching the earlier incarnations. now i prefer the tv shows.

is your judgement being colored by the use of special effects and color?

good actor but could never do a Butlins impression.

it's being coloured by how i enjoy the way the characters are portrayed, the script, the actual actors (both of whom i admire), and - most of all - how it keeps me fascinated and surprised and leaves me wanting more. that, in my books, is the acid test.

are your books printed on litmus paper?

right i'm off to write another installment of 'Shylock PI' have fun. :D

It's kind of weird that, if you like something modern, it's a "problem". People have their own tastes. There's nothing wrong with liking the 21st Century version of Sherlock, just as there's nothing wrong with burying your nose in the books, or watching a VHS of the Basil Rathbone films.

If you don't mind subtitles, IMO the best adaptation of Holmes is a set of Russian adaptations in the late 70s to mid-80s. Starring Vasily Livanov. Yeah, who'd have thought it the Russians do Sherlock.

As has been said before, the beauty of the recent series is both the modernisation of Holmes, fitting him into a contemporary setting. And the difficult relationship between Holmes and Watson, which works better here IMO than nearly any other outing.

holy crap these things are long. i should've started watching earlier. i'm not even halfway through the first episode and i might have to crash out and leave it because i didn't realize it was almost 1:30.

still, it's alright. that's not a final judgement, of course, but i just started. i'm not jumping the gun in either direction just yet.

the old series was a boring assed show. like sitting in a college class listening to some professer go on and on and on and.......................
the movies made recently have been pretty good.

i'm sticking with alright after the first series and two thirds of the first episode of series two. they're very well done, well acted and engaging but moriarty seems more annoying than evil. hopefully he gets better before he dies.
