Sexual Heath- Questions

I'm not a medical profressional, but I do have quite a bit of esoteric knowledge. My girlfriend is studying to be a nurse, so she may know a thing or two as well.

Did I miss someone's question?

no, I just know that there are a bunch of nurses on LIt, from a previous thread, but they havent made there appearance here where we could use there knowlege. I'm curious about the duoch thing that hasn't really been answered.

Your vagina (and by that I mean everyone's :p) has certain friendly bacteria and other organisms that live inside of it.

Douche can upset the pH balance of the vagina, causing one type to die out and another to assume dominance. This can lead to yeast infections, or possibly worse kinds.

I am pretty sure the danger is in the fragrances and other additives in the douche, however. Simple water shouldn't hurt at all.

Which is rather good, since the idea of a beautiful woman pleasuring herself with her faucet is pretty sexy. ;)

Vaginal tearing

A few months ago, while having sex, I tore part of the opening to my vagina. It has healed, thank god. But, it scared me A LOT. I blead from 6 AM when we had sex to about noon. It wasn't particularly rough sex, and he is not very well endowd, so I know that that those were not causes.

However, my question is "Has this happened to anyone else...?" and "How do you best to prevent it?"

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
valcorie

Its never happened to me (or more accurately to anyone I was with) and I can't really say how to prevent it.

But it does happen, although I've only heard of it durning child birth. Some Doctors make a cut pre-emptively because it will heal easier than a tear ever will.

They also often add an extra stitch when they sew up the cut they made (called the "husband's knot") for extra tightness.

Check with your doctor on whether or not hes going to make the cut or not.

This has been your daily health message. :D

Thanks for correcting me there Pink. Anyone else who knows I'm spreading total bunk feel free to call me on it.

I'm mostly going by a Sex Ed class I took in college roughly a year ago, so I'm a little fuzzy on some thing.

How about orgasms , why is it sometimes you can be very aroused for a long time and be on the edge for awhile , but the orgasm will be a two dollar firecracker in intensity and other times you can be in the same situation an the orgasm will be a hundred dollar professional pyrotechnic firecracker in intensity ?

What factors control the intensity of orgasm ? And if you have multiples are 10 multiples less intense that 1 big one ? Don't get me wrong there is no such thing as a "bad" orgasm ;) .

Does intensity store up ? Like if you have an orgasm every day for a week are they less intense than if you abstaned for a week then had one ? Has anyone else noticed that orgasms during their period seem more intense ? And if you ride the edge for awhile but the orgasm gets close but doesn't come where does it go ?

I have never had a problem with infections or anything from doing the bathtub faucet thing. I would use a shower head if I had one, believe me!! The only thing I don't like about it is that sometimes after I get dressed I'll be walking around and suddenly my panties get totally soaked from that leftover bit of water that didn't come out. Ick! Cold wet undies aren't comfortable.

Lately I've been bringing my waterproof vibrator into the tub with me and it seems to have eliminated that problem. Plus, it's more fun! :)

This information is a little dated, I'm afraid (no offense, Caliber). :)

Research has shown that having an episiotomy can actually increase the risk of a bad tear during childbirth, and as a result, many doctors no longer cut their patients. (Imagine cutting a snip in a piece of paper, then applying a bit of pressure. It will rip all the way.)

And the "husband's knot" has been the cause of a great deal of pain for many, many women when they resume sexual relations. This isn't routinely done, either. And it isn't necessary; kegel exercises will cause the vagina to return back to its original tightness (just ask my husband - lol).

Valcorie - you should bring this up at your next annual with your OB/GYN. Perhaps it was a sexual positioning problem? Not enough lube? Or just "one of those things?"

Tissue is thin there and can be easily damaged, but you'd probably feel better if a doctor said everything was OK!

:)

thank you....

Thank you for your advice. It was probably one of theose things. Doc said it healed fine, can barely tell where it was. But not a fun experiance. I have heavily invested in KY Liquid. :D
no use taking chances.

Like I said my info comes mostly from a class I took a year ago. A lot of the other stuff is from way before then.

I'm glad episiotomys are no longer routine. They were stupid in the first place (as was the "husband's knot")

if in your encounter your safe but for like maybe 10 mins or so in the middle your not but he's so lubed up with baby oil(YUUUK)would that kill any pre-cum in hopes that no pregnancy has occured:confused: :(

A lot of times when I masterbate I like to build slowly for a long time, teasing myself. How close can I get without going over ya know?

A lot of time if teased too long, when I finally cum its barely anything. Other times its a "hundred dollar professional pyrotechnic firecracker"

I really don't know why, but I've come to recognize certain sensations that herald one or another.

From my understanding, multiple orgasms are just like regular ones and come in different intensitys (meaning they can be just as strong as a regular one) Not being a woman, my info is second hand.

Normally if I don't have an orgasm for a while I'll have a big one when I finally do. I also ejaculate a lot more.

I've read after 3 days I've reached my maximum amount of stored up ejaculuate. I normally think of "stored up orgasm" along similar lines. After about 3 days, I doubt I could store any more. Your mileage may vary.

I like to think all orgasms go to heaven. :D

So ... if you have 10 minutes of unsafe sex will Baby Oil kill any semen that the man ejaculates?

Possibly, although I defintely wouldn't count on it. Baby Oil isn't an acknowledged spermicide so chances are it won't do anything.

How did you become unsafe for 10 minutes in the middle?

It sounds so painful - so glad it's better!

We like KY too. We also like Astroglide - lol - very slippery!

my guess is the condom broke

Well yeah, thats what I figured too. But from what I understand, when a condom breaks, its really hard to tell until afterwards. ie, if the condom breaks in the middle, you won't notice.

Was I misled?

Also a fair amount of mucus.

I wonder about the mucus. Is it harmful in anyway? for instance could it lead to anykind of respetory problems or anything like that? are there way to thin or thicken it?

I agree. And the "husband's knot"- I never heard of it, but I found it kind of insulting. I've had 3 kids and they never cut me. I tore the first too times, but healed up quite nicely. The third time (6 years after the last) the labor was slowwwwwwwwwwww, and I ended up not tearing at all despite the baby being nearly 8 pounds. oooohhhh, but I was sore!!!!

BTW, as the founder of this thread, I am expanding it to any sort of reproductive health questions.

I got questions about ovaries, anybody got *updated* info?

not sure, but here's a shocker that many people don't know:

condoms (used alone) are only 85% effective!!!! I always thought it was 95% or more.

I think every woman should know about the rythem method (although I do not:() even those who use other forms of birth control, we should all be more aware of how our bodies work and function.

no baby oil would not help.

spermiside would though. (and you can buy KY w/ or without spermiside) There are creams, jellies, and films. The film is cool, its a little clear square that you push up inside you and wait a few minutes, your body heat melts it. It can be goopy (sometimes it is and sometimes not so bad) but its not that bad. Spermiside isn't as effective when used alone, I don't know the %, sorry. The film is called VCF (vaginal contraceptive film) and you can get it from the heath department (along w/ many other forms of BC for free) or the drug store.

also, baby oil will render your condom useless. So will any petrolium based product, like Vaseline. Be sure to use only products intended for use with condoms!
