my "A" on the A key on my computer keyboard has disappeared..

No seriously.. the key is there.. but the "A" is gone.. and there are small indents from my finger nail on the key

the "S" is slowly leaving also

"L" thinks it needs to go too...

Should I use a marker and rewrite the letters on there? (it's not that I need to know where the keys are, but I do let other people use the computer on occasion)

Should I buy a new keyboard?

Should I not let anyone else use the computer?

Why are my letters disappearing?

Do they not like me anymore?

What does one do to piss off the letters A, S and L? (and don't be a smart ass and say something about asking ASL to much.. i hate that question.. it's the main reason I don't go to chat rooms anymore)

*note, I just noticed my A key is starting to stick*

How do computer keys get sticky?

And why is it only the "A" key that is sticky?

Why aren't they all sticky??

*donations being accepted for a new keyboard.. email me at clerky31@hotmail.com*

*will trade nude photos for cash* (come on.. i'm desperate here)

I'm tired of pounding my A key to make it work!

Lol well... if it's just the letters on top fading, I wouldn't bother with a new keyboard unless you absolutely couldn't stand it. On the other hand, if the keys are starting to stick, maybe it's time to buy a new keyboard.

IT must be an epidemic!!!! I have lost the M & N the L is fading fast....even the C is looking like it may need life support soon!!! I wonder if it is contagious!

keyboards get sticky and quit working because of dust and dirt that gets into them. its pretty much impossible to keep them completely clean, but from what you're saying of the keys sticking and such, i suggest you go get a new keyboard. if you watch for sales, i'm sure you can find a nice one for about $13 (that's how much mine cost me).

Dish out the twenty bucks and get a new key board.

I could give you my theory on the sticky buttons.... But no.

:)

you could buy some canned air and clean your keyboard. actually, i cleaned my old keyboard by prying the keys off and using a q tip and some rubbing alcohol but now i have a lap top so that really isn't an option. as long as you can figure out the right order when you replace the keys that method should work for a regular keyboard.

keys like the letter A which are used a lot are more likely to fade than ones that aren't hit as often (like Z for example)

keys get sticky when ashes/dust/crumbs/whatever build up under the keys. to avoid this problem in the future you (and whoever else used the computer) shouldn't eat or smoke over the keyboard.

in spite of all this advice, a new keyboard won't cost you very much, and your A key will probably never fully recover, so it might be a good investment.

Were you standing over your keyboard while cybering in the chat rooms?

Seriously, the average keyboard doesn't last more than 2 years under heavy use unless you have a Lexmark/IBM keyboard or something of similar quality. They're cheap enough at your local Best Buy. I think it's time to invest.

That's exactly what I did. And then I went out and bought a new one after the space bar still wouldn't work. I suggest skipping that first step.

But.. but.. but I loooooooooooove my keyboard

I know just what buttons to push.. and when to push them

My keyboard can't just be thrown out and replaced like yesterdays breakfast.. it's not fair.. she's been good to me

:D

Seriously I used the canned air.. it's just to damn dirty.. it's probably the combo of sunflower seed shells and coffee..

I guess I'll run out and buy a new one.. :(

If you touch type, the key identification is not important, however. Stickyness is.

Sometimes it is because there is too much exciting stuff going on here. By-product of overuse at lit, ;) perhaps.

my k,l,d,s,a,; are all missing on my keyboard, those are the keys that I hit with my fingers, all of the others only get hit by the nail and the letters are still on them, I think if other ppl want to use your puter they will figure out where the keys are or you can buy some little alphabet stickers to put on them, that way when they wear off you can just put on a new sticker :)

LOL

Well i have serveral of my letters faded on my key board.
the letters "A", "S", "L", E","O" are completely gone and the letters "D", "W" , "C", "N", "M", U", "I" are slowly fading. And my key board is starting to stick. But concidering ive had this keyboard since i bought this computer 6 YEARS ago thats not to bad....lol
And this computer is used every single day!!!!!
Im planning on buying a new keyboard but with me with no job at the moment im pinching pennies!!!!!

Just my 2 cents.

How about if you come visit and we go shopping instead.. you might have your A key run away someday.. and you will need that spare keyboard.

Tomorrow is good.. gives me a few hours to clean the bathroom and the spare bedroom.. oh wait, it's full of my kinda sorta brother in law.. but I'm sure he'd share the bed with you ;)

Says you!! I just learned a new trick the other night even though I thought I was a safe distance away :D

My keyboard overall is in horrid shape.. It's dirty, dusty.. I have spilled pop, milk, water & beer on it.. A wing dipped in honey garlic sause has been dropped on it.. All I have to do is turn it upseide down and I get crap flying off it like no tommorow.. The left shift and ctrl keys are faded out totaly..

But I love my keyboard.. I'm trying to make it last as long as possible because the store I got it from can't get anymore... So what I've been doing about once a week is taking an air can and blowing out all the dust..Getting some rubbing alchohol and a sponge swab to clean out some of the keys..

And I'm refusing to eat near it anymore.. At least I wasn't until my lunches became important meetings with someone online.. :)

Oh shopping with FG! I need a few new things.....

So, your brother in law wouldn't mind sharing his bed. But, the real question is, do you think I would mind? lol;)

Sounds like a plan.

I will help out the best I can.

well lets see, no sex , wild sex in the back seat

Hmm really hard decision ;)

I'm still on my old laptop. I have no a, h, k, l, m, n, < or > any more. It is really lucky that I type by touch I guess. My right hand seems to be a lot harder on the keyboard than my left though.

Strangely, my "s" is perfect and a lot of you have lost that one.
