Senior Moments

I like to say stuff like phone booth to our student interns and then watch the confused look on their face.

Great! A principal once asked me why I spent so much time at the map and talking about when the author lived. (She was once a Communication Arts teacher herself.) I refused to give her the obvious reason. We were reading Science Fiction. When the students completed the selection, they were wowed. The guy was born in 1820 something. The things he talked about were real to them.

There are millions of novels and short stories that mention phone booths. What do readers lose if they don't know what a phone booth is?

I took my classes to see a Shakespearean play. During the intermission one young man approached with a serious question. "What did people use for toilet paper when Shakespeare was alive?"

In preschool, our son asked, "You two were alive during the Civil War, right ?"....

I love The Andy Griffith Show....so naturally my kids saw it a lot!! :)

Because some of the seasons were black and white and some were color, one of my sons asked me when he was young, if in my childhood the world was only black and white. I told him absolutely! God did not make the world in color until the late 60's. :D

LOL.... but it was nice when more things were "black and white"!!:D

I tell my grandkids, I'm older than dirt. The youngest spent a whole day thinking about that. Then I got a ..Grandma, did you ever see a dinosaur?

She couldn't understand why I was laughing so hard.

And they can't figure out how we ever survived without "devices" to amuse us constantly...

I caught this Louis C K clip from Conan on Facebook today - about the new generation of Spoiled Idiots. Has a lot of memories of "our time" - I urge you to watch, pretty funny stuff!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0ncl5pEYxg

Louis was born in 1967. It was amazing by the time he was old enough to notice things. I was born in 1947. Not everyone had a phone or TV. Parts of the US were still not electrified. In NYC, there were still cold water flats with a pay phone in the hall. Not everyone had a bank account. People today would think they were in hell.

Just saw a segment about this on the morning news... 40 years ago?? Really.. where did that time get to.....
