The 4 "S's" of publishing hell…………

I was talking with Judy Blume last night (no shit, really)and she told me/us that one of her books - with one swear word in it, that's one word - a very, very, emotionally important word for the character and context - it was suggested to her by her publisher to change it - suggested that she "self censor," herself.

Why?

The "Book Clubs" - would refuse to distribute because of controversy and complaint from - guess who?????

Parents and Teachers!!!!!!!

FUCK!!!! Doesn't that make you just want to yell FICK!!! FUCK these moronic Teachers and Parents and fuck them all!

AND - that was the word.

She didn't change it.

The Nephilim, who are actually aliens from outer space, have landed on earth on a censoship to once again seduce human women. I must say, Sparky, you finally made me laugh when you posted that foreplay thing on a totally unrelated thread. Too fucking funny!

Slut_boy commented on my use of the word "dagnabbit" over there on the "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" thread. I got that from a literary agent who had the nerve to question me about the use of profanity in my writing and speaking. Anyway, so this guy refers me to the "Dagnabbit Dude" at ...

http://www.dagnab.com/

I'm telling you, if you have a swearing addiction like me, this fucking works!

I like.....

Dagnabbit! And Fiddlesticks too.

As a southerner in NYC - the northerner's get a kick out of me using "dawg sheit."

As for my posting on an unrelated thread?

Just proves the fact of my general ignorance, my dyslexia, and general lack of enthusiasm regarding the workings and etiquette of this here beige box.

I only tell the truth, as I interpret it - twisted and ignorant as that may be.

Judy Blume was a big part of my life growing up. (Well, okay, through elem school anyway.) I lived off of books like Are You There God, It's Me Margaret, and Then Again, Maybe I Won't. It's such a pitty when people think they need to censor everyone! Is someone is so dead against their child seeing or watching something, then they could exercise their right to censor their own child. Why make everyone else miss out on things?

Nothing better than a Judy Blume book when you're a teenaged girl full of angst about life, love and the future. And damn it makes me respect her even more to know she said Fuck off to a buncha greedy publishers.
By the by Spunkman, perhaps you should take a gander at your title and then go back and read Deborah's first paragraph again. I'm thinking it didn't even leave skid marks it slid over your head so fast.

She was my favorite author growing up. I read all her books, Are you there God it's me Margret, was my favorite. That was where I learned about "that monthly time" my mother never mentioned to me.

Tiger Eyes I would have to say was my second favorite.

I will buy my daughter an entire set of Blume books when she is ready for them. I am smart enough to know my children and censore out what I feel they do not need but I do not know some elses children well enough to do that for them nor they for mine.

Wow, I must have "grown up" pretty fast! (At least literature wise! :) ) I was reading Judy Blume (and those Babysitter CLub books) around 8-10, Christopher Pike & R.L. Stine (suspense/horror) around 10-12, and things like Steven King, etc. from about 13 on... :)

BTW Cheri perhaps you should take a gander at Sparky's second posting and cut the guy some slack.

BTW Cheri -

I got it - just didn't think it was worth responding to.

Got I hate typing BTW. That must mean I'm turning. Shit!

Damn Ezster

I'd have never thought Sparkman would need the calvary come and save him, maybe his woman but that would only be from a bad blowjob in the couples room and that's a whole other story.
I should've known you got thatSpark, you're one slick dude. Besides you're quick enough to know when poking ya!
