Sci-Fi/Fantasy Chain Story Idea

Exactly, that whole bittersweet character development thing if she was with a Master she liked. She probably knows a lot about history, but she may not be able to keep track of everything in her mind, since she's bouncing around in it willy-nilly. She may not realize that she's at a critical point in history until an event occurs, or it may be one she isn't yet farmiliar with. Something like the pyroplastic flow could happen before she even realizes it's there. She could be outside the ring one minute, and then *poof* back inside and confused.

She would know that she couldn't change a war, or a massive natural disaster, but she might be surprised to discover that she *can't* save someone, because that person's death was a critical turning point that eventually leads to something huge, like the rise of an empire. As soon as she tries to alter something like this according to a Master's wish, she would instantly understand, but she might not previously make the connection.

That would be a good way to mix up her space-time journeys as well, having her attempt something she can't do sending her hurtling as well. Someone could ignore the rule about the dead and demand she do it anyway out of grief *poof* gone.

Just me standard rambling and rumination.

Chapter 4 is back from the editor, bless him, and will be submitted within the next hour or so.

All part and parcel of running a PnP role-playing game set in a high magic, almost "Monty Haul" world. Magic items that, in most games, would have been coveted as the next best thing to godhood, would often be tossed in a sack and referred to by the common derrogitory for a magic item the player had no real use for - an "Orb of Butt-Hair Knotting". Single power items, no matter how strong, could frequently be found sitting on the bargain racks of magic shops like a dented toaster in a pawn shop.

Thus I spent tremendous amounts of time dreaming up complex magic items that had fascinating power sets, limitations, mysteries, devious intelligence and enough juice to interest the players without making them so powerful that they could waltz around the world dealing careless death to dragons that were also magic-users of the highest order.

If it's magical, my brain is constantly delving into it. Some long-used habits just can't be broken

Mine is back from editing as well, and will go into submission quite early on the 15th - likely a few minutes after midnight.

I love RPG's, but not online. That's too complicated for me.

And I prefer the fantasy ones, with lots of nasty spells and underhanded tricks.

I've been thinking about doing another chapter and have come up with a couple of ideas...that is if it's okay for me to do another one. I was thinking of the Salem witch trials...uh oh, genie caused some trouble...or perhaps an outerspace adventure. I desperately need something different than the two historical romances I have been writing.

If you wish to submit early let me know and I can change the schedule to reflect that. With the stories jumping back and forth through time, if you submit early isn't a big issue, just please let me know if you do, or if you can't reach the schedule date.

She's pretty much a slave with powers of a Genie and once the person loses the ring, they lose her.

We'll travel through time and space.


Her Limits:

CAN'T alter major historical events.
She can't make anyone fall in love.
Can't bring back the dead, but if there is one breath left in the body, she can heal them.

How does one lose her: Lose the ring, have it stolen, and lie to her. I like the idea of lieing to her. Like I said you don't have to lie to her, she's going to willingly do as you ask anyway, whether she likes it or not. So lieing to her means the ring disappears, where it goes in time or space is up to you the writer. Rules can not be revealed unless the Master/Mistress asks about them.

Summening her: Twisting the ring counter-clockwise by accident, and twisting it while whispering her name on purpose.

Laresa must recouperate inside the ring sometimes, when she becomes exhausted.

She is invisible to all, unless her Master/Mistress deems her visible. So far this has been implied in some stories.

Anything else we can think of we can post here and I'll add.

And my intro continues the recuperation theme, actually defining it as sleep within the ring. She's waking up at the beginning of mine.

"Laresa awoke from her rejuvenative sleep, once again restored so that she might walk the world outside her ring when the call came."

It's looking more and more like Pompeii for a second chapter setting. I've spent the last couple of nights digging up info. Interesting notes about how they viewed amber that can add a lot of historical flavor keyed to something already well-established in the story with the stone in the ring.

I am so tired of the shit that I've been dealing with that I'm thinking of quitting Lit and the other storyboard I post to and taking my stories with me. I haven't made a definite decision yet, but I know that it wouldnt be fair to have my name up for another chapter while this is going on.

I can handle being told my writing sucks, cuz hey, personal choice, but these emails are more threatening than anything else and they are really bothering me.

Thanks Red, I'm just not sure. It would be like leaving home and venturing out into the cold cruel world on my own with only a stack of pancakes in a sack on my back and uphill both ways... Yeah, a little melodramatic but it works.

If I had a way to keep you safe I'd offer it. Folks are gonna find you if they want to bad enough. I wish it weren't that way. But you can rest assured you are on the list and if it looks like you can't make a dated slot, or you are sure you aren't going to at all, I'll play with the schedule and move you down to accomodate you when needed.

That is horrable! I havent read alot of your work, but from the chapter you wrote ehre, i'm considering myself a fan, and looked forward finding time to read other stories you wrote - the idea that someone could have violent threats toward an author on lit is....i don't even have an approprite word for that.


I'd google some info up the stalking laws of your state, many are now including the online world as illegal stalking, and the law can get involved to protect you, if it is really getting that bad.

whatever the choice you make, i hope you stay safe, and overcome this person.

Been through this before, numerous times. Even though it wasn't me, I was close enough in each case that I've got a darn good sense of how it makes you feel. On a positive note: Every one of them ended up doing jail time for it. Obsessive people are mistake prone, very few are masterminds like they're portrayed in movies and such.

File all those emails, even if you never want to see them again. There's no such thing as completely anonymous on the internet. There is still a trail even to the best hacker, let alone a wakko stalker. You might need them someday.

Uh oh, major inspirational flash. This one may push my other setting ideas off the table, as it is congealing really quickly in my head. I'm looking at early 1900's Alaska now as the probable setting. I may even start writing it tonight, actually.

If the chain goes long enough, perhaps one of those other ideas could become a third chapter for me, I've certainly done enough research on them. This one is just snapping in my head like the first, and I've learned not to ignore my muse when it starts shrieking at me.

I have to warn you, she's a little scatter-brained and can't stick to one thing at a time. As soon as she's dropped off inspiration and wailed on me to start writing it, she's off on another tangent that she'll be hollering about in a couple of days *laugh*

Well evidenced by the Danica readers starting to leave PCs and email comments on anything I post between those chapters noting the delay in the core story
