A few days back, serene (sereneone4u) told me she was dealing with an unpleasant headache. She brought it up a few more times over the course of the evening, and I urged her to go see a doctor, even if her normal physician was out of town. The next day, she made an appointment, and was told she had a tension headache, with some muscle spasms in her neck possibly squeezing a nerve. She was given muscle relaxants.
At 5:17 the next morning, I got an e-mail saying she'd had a bad reaction to the medicine, and that she couldn't use the right side of her body, and couldn't walk. She was headed to the ER.
Yesterday morning, I heard that it was a possible mini-stroke, but the doctors weren't sure.
Yesterday afternoon, I learned that the possibility of a stroke was eliminated, but some other things had cropped up.
A couple MRI's and some labwork later, the doctor and neuroscientist think something may be slightly wrong with her brainstem.
As of the latest update, they plan on doing a spinal tap for more conclusive testing, along with starting her on a regimen of steroids and physical therapy.
I'll keep this updated with whatever information I have. She's under the weather (she's got pneumonia as well), but the doctors have her in a private room, surrounded by her family, in a good place. She's well enough to wake up, talk, and do all the things you and I normally do, with the exception of her right side, where she's making a very slow recovery. She's told me she might come online from time to time, but talking on the phone is somewhat awkward, and typing is even more so.
Please, whatever prayers or thoughts you have would be more than welcome.
