Santorum

Romney is running around Michigan campaigning on letting the state's economy collapse... Then he sits and wonders why voters aren't excited about him.

I agree .. all they need to do is stream that clip where he says let the auto industry go belly up.

Republicans have a problem.

Their prayer for anyone but Romney or Paul

was followed by anyone but Romney or Bachmann

anyone but Romney or Perry

anyone but Romney or Cain

anyone but Romney or Gingrich.

They're running out of anyones

and now they have anyone but Romney or Santorum.

What a choice!

Bwahahahaha!!1

"Clearly there's a BAD RABBIT in this flock, and it's got my PINK CLOWN ENEMIES!"

Oh, man. If that were Herman Cain's actual ad, he'd have my vote in half no time.

2012 is starting to look worse than 2008 did for the Republicans.

Seems pretty clear that, after they lose in November, they need to get together at a national conference somewhere and hash this shit out.

I don't think he's crazy.

He's got antediluvian social views, which would be fine if he kept them to himself. But of course he doesn't want to.

His absurdly hypocritical drive to impose Vatican law on American bedrooms and OB/GYN offices would be hilarious... if he only appealed to a small fringe in our society. But he doesn't.

What do I think of him? I think he's fucking disgusting.

Provide me with a link to the following two things and we're square:

1) a list of every chord and what notes make them up

2) freeware that allows me to compose music on my laptop
1) It's unclear to me what you want. Are you looking for how to play basic chords on an instrument--say piano or guitar?

2) Also unclear. By "compose," do you mean, get your computer to spit out something that sounds like music, even though you don't really play music? If so, get GarageBand for Mac or Mixcraft for PC and you can lay down and arrange prerecorded loop segments into full songs that are often pretty groovy.

But tell me more and I'll tell you more.

ETA: Just saw the "Freeware" part. Both GB and MC are pay. I'll answer better once I know what you've got in mind.

The Ron Paul one is pretty laughtastic too.

1) Yeah, pretty much. I've been slowly working back into piano. Playing single note melodies is no prob to me, because my main axe for a lot of years was trumpet. I want to add in left hand, but just chords for now, so I need to know what to play when the sheet music says "F minor diminished" or whatever.

2) I was thinking something that would let me, say, plug in a series of notes and hear what it sounds like, then tweak time signature/values, etc. Just being able to say "play this" and then hear it, because I can't sight read to save my life, and I can't hear stuff I look at, or play by ear at all.

We don't know any more about Santorum than we did at the start of his campaign but now he's the front runner. Like all the previous R front runners he got to the top by default. Clearly, they're not picking the best candidate, but the least bad.

The least bad was Huntsman.

Ok, in reverse order: Depending on what you mean by "plug in" (that is, play live vs pushing buttons), I can strongly recommend Audacity. It's free, reasonably powerful, has lots of cool effects and is pretty intuitive. It has weaknesses, but for a free program, it's way more than it needs to be.

You CAN use it with MIDI (pushing buttons), but there's a learning curve involved with that. Best bet is a live mic--even your built-in one on your computer--and their effects (which would let you, for example, change pitch or time). Changing time signature (as opposed to duration) in itself won't change what you hear, just how it is organized visually across printed staves.

Having said that, you should really just pop out the bread for GarageBand (if you're on a Mac). It's far more intuitive, allows for both looped and live recording, is very easy to edit/change/tweak with, and has a very easy to use MIDI interface, both for built-in sounds and anything you plug in. (In other words, no learning curve.)

In terms of chords, you're asking perhaps a more complicated question than you realize...or else I'm interpreting as a more complicated question than it is. At any rate, if it's a matter of knowing how to play a particular chord, here's an interactive resource that will build chords for you and show you where to put your fingers to play them: http://www.telacommunications.com/nutshell/music/keyboard.htm

I hope that helps.

The least bad was Huntsman.

Maybe in your opinion and mine but he never had a chance. He is way too rational to get the nomination from a party of extreme luncacy. I've voted Republican before and may again on a local level but I can't imagine ever voting Republican again for a national office.

Tell me what you think of him.

I'll read this thread after - it's only right.

He is a phenomenon. It's an election and he has traction. He has traction because he shakes hands. And because he shakes hands, he can run on fumes. It's humble. I have never minded his place at the debates. He's always been the most humble pol in the race.

The link is precisely what I wanted! Thank you. This will let me sit with a piece of sheet music and scribble on it what the fuck to play when I don't know what the chord is supposed to be.

Audacity is very cool, but not quite what I meant. Lemme see...

One of the earliest computers in my life, an old Apple something or other, was a hand-me-down, and left on it by the previous owner was a file that, when I clicked on it, showed a music staff with a sort of medley of Christmas music in standard notation. When you said "go" it moved a bar or a bouncing ball or something along the music and played it at the same time. You could edit the music, yanno? Add notes, move them around, etc. Then play it and see what changes you had wrought. That's the sort of thing I want. I'm on a PC.

OK. You're describing MIDI. Do a google search for "simple midi free pc" (no quotes) and just try a few until you find one that is as intuitive as you want. They're free, so you might as well just keep trying them until the right one comes along. There will be any number of options for what you're looking for.
