Safely transitioning from just me and her to me her and a friend

We are in the middle of trying to set our relationship up to be more open in nature to play with a third party now and then.

I was hoping for some advice/stories of lessons learned about how to prevent any pitfalls that can obviously occur.

Tread very carefully, I see that as a trap like "Does this dress make my ass look big?" or "Have you stopped beating your wife?" Make sure communication is in place and go slow, also make sure your relationship is strong enough to endure the extra pull of adding a third.

Ive never had the pleasure, but a friend of mine was lucky enough to have a girlfriend who was willing to do this. The only rule that they had was that he couldn't fuck the friend. Everything else was fair game.

We've agreed that it can not be friends or people we were involved with before one another already and also that since it's going to be a woman that we add, she gets to decide the woman. We've been talking about it for months. And she's actively bi-curious with some experience but never while committed to someone.

Friends being off limits sounds like a good game plan.
Any advice from anyone in a poly relationship? I have repeatedly brought it up to my ole man, he says it's all fine and good until we're at the point of making it more then talk - then he flips and acts anxious like this persons not sane or safe.
Doesn't every guy want a ffm? Lol
