I would have thought momentum on this war would give the Russians a free hand to deal with their Chechnya situation.

But they are too dangerous to dismiss out of hand...
In fact, I would suggest they are more dangerous now then at any point during the cold war.
That country more and more resembles pre-Versailles Germany every day...
I think the world will regret beggering the Soviets when all is said and done. There was a degree of clarity during the cold war.
