Runners unite

Have you tried mtn biking? It combines all the cardio and muscular benefits of road biking and all the fun of trail runs into one sport. And it’s kind of like HIIT because of elevation change.
Yes, I have. Actually doing both since years love it - road and MTB. Managed to get to 3’500km with 50k VM this year so far. Hoping to hit the 5’000 km in one of the next years. But now activities shifted more to running again - caused by weather and the shorter days at this time of the year.

That’s awesome! Those numbers are legit.

There’s nothing like mtb in terms of fun and fitness. The adrenaline rush, the scenery of good trails, and the workout are the absolute best.

Made it out this morning.....really didn't feel like it...cold and little hungover, but feel worlds better for it!

Just a 5km today

First Half marathon in 12+ yrs in the books. Tied my PR that I set at age 23! Nailed my splits: each mile was +/- 5 seconds around my goal pace, and the only mile that hurt was the last.

Time for another one! And you marathoners: let’s hear your hard pitch for why I should jump to the next distance.

Does anybody has any races coming up?
I've run a few marathons and would like to run another this winter somewhere in the Southeastern U.S. since it's flat, not too cold and an easy commute for me. Any recs?

The first time I ran a full, it was such a fulfilling feeling of accomplishment. It was peaceful throughout for me (except the short-lived wall around Mile 19) and was almost therapeutic. Someone once told me before I ran one that if you feel fine after a half, you are well on your way to being able to do a full. Absolutely correct. Highly recommend!

It's the challenge! ...And the sense of accomplishment. If you're going to do one, develop a training plan and stick with it. There are lots of templet training plans on the internet.

This^^^. There are days you don’t want to do the grind of training but it’s so important. The whole thing is an exercise on discipline.

Miami is coming up in early February. Both half and full. And there will be others in Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood Beach.

what's your best 10k time?

I normally run Obstacle Course races, so the 10K in those varies depending on terrain. 2 weeks ago my first road 10K and i did it in 1:18. I know, I suck. But, I'll keep pushing. Let's see if I can bring that time down a few minutes on Thanksgiving. (I'm 5'9", almost 51 y/o and 194Lbs)

don't be daft, the running is the key, the time is secondary (unless you're an elite athlete, then it kind of matters!).

Most men can't run 10km at all, and those who can, I would think most can't do it in 1:18, so give yourself a break!

I have just got my new pair of Brooks Adrenaline shoes, and I love them, very comfortable.

What do you lovely people run in?
I was asics nimbus for years, which were near top of the line for a while. Every June, last season’s model would on clearance so I bought them when a good sale price hit. I slowed down on them when the fabric primarily by the big toe but little toe too ended up popping out on three or four in a row. Makes them bad yardwork shoes too, years into their future. Twigs can get in them now.

Now that I’m not as dedicated a runner, I get mid price cushioning style shoes almost always on clearance, so usually about $100 US pair shoes but only if they’re on clearance for about $60 max.

The wet towel test helps people find the right style for their specific feet, that part is more important than the brand or price. People who hate their shoes usually just have the wrong type for their feet. My wife and her whole family have flat feet. It’s not the hoes (shoes, but hey, that autocorrect was pure karma! :D) fault if they accidentally got shoes with arch support.

As a former runner appreciate every minute you spend doing it. Eight knee operations pretty much put a stop to something I've been doing since I was a little kid. I do walk my dog 4-5 miles every morning and love doing it but it's not like running. I still dream of running some of the races I did before I blew my body to hell

Brooks are great
I love them, I think these are my 6th pair now, and they offer great support and comfort.

I had gait analysis etc.. and these were the result.

The new ones are my road running ones, but I also have some Brooks trail shoes which are also great.

I have used those for years! I pick up the prior model year whenever my current pair reaches retirement mileage.
