Runners unite

I’m a cyclist at heart but am getting back to running and am enjoying it. I’m struggling trying to find the balance between training for the two. I’m hoping that the combined training will benefit both, but hours in the saddle and pounding the pavement are two completely different things. Anyone else struggle with this or have any advice how to balance?

I do both but use cycling more as a recovery workout.
I did do a few duathalons and then training was brick runs - cycling then running as soon as off bike.

You could add a swim and do triathlon!

I did one in Townsville (Northern Australia) last year and a big crocodile had been seen on the beach a couple of days before. They had people watching for it during the swim leg of the race.

I did my first triathlon last summer. I struggled figuring out a real training plan. I turn 40 in about 18 months and I’m considering a half Ironman as a present to myself 😂😂

I’m a runner at heart, but when I had an injury I did use the indoor bike when I was running a reduced amount of days.

I never did quite find the right balance for me, but using both definitely works for some people I know.

When I tried I did a lot of Peloton power zone endurance rides - but I wonder if I’d have been better served also throwing in an occasional powerzone or powerzone max ride for the higher intensity stuff.

I was able to get back to running 6 days a week before I ever mastered it. Keep trying slightly different approaches and hopefully you land on something that works.

Training for marathon number 26 and I can't find the motivation. I should be at 30 miles per week, but have barely made it to 20. And I haven't done good speed work in a while.

What tricks do you play on yourself to get you back in the horse?

Fortunate that this is not something I’ve ever struggled with so far so don’t have a heap of ideas.

Have you got an actual plan you’re following? If not, maybe try that - perhaps even sharing it with someone to make you ‘accountable’ on getting the training done because someone else knows what you need to be doing?

I just turned 50 last year and i think thats a part of it. More recovery time and more soreness than I'm used to.....fighting a rising tide.

My plan is fairly basic....no huge miles...just get to 40-50 a week before the taper. Maybe i am just needing to change that up. I feel like I've never stopped training.

Been down with the flu for the last week. Temps in the 60s this week, hoping to get out for an easy run soon and shake out the remaining bits of this flu.

So, this is Literotica after all... Makes me wonder if any of you have any running-related sexy stories to share? Any adventures or stories worth mentioning?

Welcome, welcome. We are bunch of runners of all backgrounds, distances and levels.
Great ..... First group like this I've encountered. I have only three races on the books for this year myself but they are all three doozies. Anyway I'll ease in to get the vibes and lay of the land in here but intend to stick around and follow!

I also have 3 races this year, doing two more this weekend. Keep at it... I was thinking we should start posting medal pictures
