Growing up (and I realize at 23, I have a lot more to do), I read everything I could get my hands on about sex, reading every page. Even if it meant sneaking things out of my parents' secret stash. When I read Nancy Friday's book about men's fantasies, I was exposed to a variety of fantasies that have foddered RP. From the taboo to the vanilla.

How did you, the reader of this post, get the idea(s) for your RP?

'RP' is role-play? I assume...

I don't do role-play.

I get ideas. And then I do them. There is nothing role, or play, about them.

Where do I get some of the ideas? I think they are somewhat self-generated in the sense that they are all, inside of us all of the time and we don't really let them out much or we think society means we have to keep them inside.

For instance I can see someone I don't know. Someone interesting, I guess. And then the thought about them comes when I look at them: 'you wouldn't would you...?' 'Maybe you would!'

Er, real experience has taught me that in some, maybe even many cases, not only would they, but they go a long way further than I ever suspected they could even know about much less do!!

When I realized that there are many MANY people who will do absolutely amazing things you never would expect, well, hell it just opens the door to totally unrestricted imagination.

Sex, erotic sensations, feelings, these things are naturally inside of people. Whether in any single situation either side or both or several have the communication and diplomacy skills to negotiate actual physical interactions is another thing - but, the fact is the more you think about these things in a mature fashion the better you become at relating.

Thinking, imagining, testing cautiously... All good.

Mostly from real life situations that I don't have the courage to do anything about. I remember the situation for later and then fantasize about what I would have done if given the 2nd chance and I had the proverbial 'balls' to follow through with it. My best rp are based on something from my real life, as though it could actually happen if the situation was right. But, that's just me ;)

If you're interested in RP, your writing partner is probably even more important than any ideas. If you're lucky enough to find somebody that you really click with, even if you start with a strictly vanilla idea, the creative process will evolve it into something smoking hot. That's right where you want to be.

I've been lucky enough to write with some good partners and one stunningly incredible writing partner. Good luck to you. Its a blast to write with somebody you have good chemistry with.
