Room 101

excuses.

Everyone needs to accept responsibility for what they know they should be doing and quit making shoddy excuses. Rise above the excuses and try at life, dammit. :catroar:

Barry Bonds, because I fear that some child somewhere might actually admire the selfish, racist, misogynist, cheating jerk.
Ooo. Tell us how you really feel about him, Bel. ;)

Oh, and while I'm at it, I like Brussels and have no opinion in regards to butterbeans...but I would be very happy if cilantro was erased from the face of the earth, so in it goes. I hope Rupert chokes on it.

Gah! I can't even look at the image! That's how much I'd like it banned from the planet!

I like those too.

Oh well, as long as mosquitoes and roaches are gone...

*laugh*

I soooo nearly said slugs. Where I grew up as a child there were leopard slugs - huge, fat grey slugs spotted with black, 3-4 inches long and the most disgusting thing imaginable.

I think slugs are kind of cute, with their retractable feelers that just seem to sort of merge into their heads. But I felt less kindly toward them when I had reason to suspect they were responsible for eating all the Spicy Globe basil I had growing in front of my house.

I cannot figure out why God made fire ants. I have little use for most ants, and fire ants are the worst of all.

Slimy, disgusting, plant-devouring fucking slugs.

*shudder*
I already took care of those when I dumped in Rupert

I liked the slugs in Flushed Away but the ones outside you can have.

Just to stir things up a bit.

Room 101 was a room in the novel 1984 where dissidents were sent as part of their torture to be confronted by the thing that they absolutely feared most - as I am sure all you lit lovers know.

Now there's a thought. What would you be tortured with in Room 101 - what do you fear so much that you would overturn all your moral standards and all those that you love if tortured with it and why do you fear it so much?

This is really difficult and I'm having trouble deciding what I would be confronted with on Room 101 myself. So feel free to ignore this and continue with the original concept of this thread.

George Bush can go in there. While we're at it, let's put all the fucking neo-conservative American Nazis in there. And, polish it off with the management at Wal-Mart.

I thought the same thing when I saw the thread title. I haven't worked out an answer, however. I don't have anything obvious and concretely specific like Winston's fear of rats.

I do have a bad head for heights and in extreme situations can get a sensation that goes past fear and turns into a sort of numbness. Once when I really pushed it (at a free-fall style amusement park ride) it felt like my brain spun for a moment and then ceased to work. I was nervous but reasonably in control while we were being lifted up and then paused sitting up there in the air, but once the fall began I wasn't really there for most of it.

I have no idea what I might do in such a condition, but I don't think I'd be a threat to anyone. I just felt like I was switched off and limp. If it was being used as a form of torture, I might very well try to leap out and kill myself if they kept it up for long enough, but if I couldn't, I think it would filter through to me that I really could not fall. Either way, I can't at the moment see it making me abandon all that is dear to me, but then no one really knows what he's proof against until he tries it.

Really, though, I think that the most serious threats are the non-dramatic ones. We imagine ourselves fierce lions in defiance of torture and dramatic threats, but I think that most people who betray their principles or their loved ones do it for things like want of patience, desire to have their own way, or that nice bit of skirt in accounting.

After this week, I can honestly say that threatened with the idea of a loved one in terrible pain, I would talk, I would cave, I would fiercely espouse the idea that we have always been at war with Oceania. I'd have done anything.

It's mostly over; my husband comes home from the hospital tomorrow. But yes, if someone had walked up to me and asked me to vote Hitler to the presidency and espouse american fascism, I'd have done it. In a heartbeat.

Good thing nobody offered, huh?

Ooooo. [Leaning in] This is gonna be good. Do go on!

Those annoying pensioners they employ to patrol supermarket car parks, and check no one's stayed there longer than two hours.

As soon as you arrive, they're standing in front of your car, typing the licence plate into their machine. And some of them are just too fucking efficient.

Sometimes I feel like just putting my foot on the gas when they're crossing the road, and running them over.

So they need to go into Room 101 for their own safety.

Yeah, sorry about that.

I guess it's not so bad, at least Manchester United is down here too.

It wasn't Scarlett. I actually wouldn't mind sharing with her :D

I was told "We never had sex, we were just friends" but I guess my BF goes the presidential definition of sex. I found out from a third party there was a blow job involved. When I confronted my BF about it, he said "I thought we agreed not to pry into each other's pasts." If he had just told me about it, I wouldn't have had to pry. He finally admitted the blow job and said it "really didn't do anything" for him. I could care less who sucked his dick three months before we even started dating, but I was angry he hadn't told me about it and I had to find out about it from someone who has no business knowing my BF's business. And I'm disgusted at his bad taste, this person is a total skanky whore. *still not too happy* It's bad enough he has someone else's name tattooed right next to his dick.

Fucking marketing phone calls - the kind that are made by a computer that hangs up as soon as you've broken your neck getting to the phone and picking it up.

So you do a 1471 to find out who called, get the number and phone them back, ready to give whoever's in charge merry hell... only to get an answerphone message telling you that *name of company* will be getting back in contact with you shortly

Arseholes.
