It is one of the curious turn of events this year that Mitt has "suspended" his campaign and more or less conceding the nomination to McCain.... The pundits and talking heads were all over this and basically were awarding the nomination to McCain....

But it seemed odd to me at the time.... I would have thought that the "Real Conservative" (And no, I do not want to go there again) vote was split between Mitt and Mike... so Mitt's suspension was going to help Huckabee more than McCain...

I have no idea what the current Republican convention rules are.... What now happens to the Romney delegates? Does he "control" them? Are they obligated to vote for him? If McCain cannot get a majority on his own... will it go to a wide open 2nd ballot?

Moreover, if Romney is so wound up about his disagreement with McCain on "several important issues" why would he not throw his votes to Huckabee with whom I assume he has fewer "issue" issues(sic)?

CNN doesn't even bother to post Romney delegates in the great tally board, although mentioning his suspension.... So the delegate count looks strongly (even after the recent results) in McCain's favor.... But if one adds Romney's delegates to Huckabee's... this race is still there to be won by Huckabee...

Maybe McCain is not the sure winner he was crowned last week.

Mitt controls the delegates he has, except for the super-delegates.

But I suspect McCain's coronation may not be a done deal. McCain needs 1100 delegates, and he doent have them. Huck continues to draw blood.

I wont be surprised if the Republicans go for someone else at the convention.

McCain isnt universally loved by his peers in government.

Harding wasnt the pick of the litter when he won the nomination, he was a compromise when the convention deadlocked.

From what I understand, Mitt can either retain his delegates or release them and suggest they vote for the candidate that he endorses. But if he releases them they are not under any obligation to vote the way he says.

LIAR

Technically speaking there are no GOP Superdelegates, just like there are no CIA spys in any of our embassies. Just like there are no successful treasons. But GOP leaders and money-bags seem to find berths as delegates.

The whole superdelegates/no superdelegates thing makes my head hurt.

But I do like listening to George Stephanopoulos say "superdelegate" for some strange reason.

Warren G. Harding quotes.... Who knew?

"I have no trouble with my enemies. I can take care of my enemies in a fight. But my friends, my goddamned friends, they're the ones who keep me walking the floor at nights"

“I don't know much about Americanism, but it's a damn good word with which to carry an election.”

“I don't know what to do or where to turn in this taxation matter. Somewhere there must be a book that tells all about it, where I could go to straighten it out in my mind. But I don't know where the book is, and maybe I couldn't read it if I found it.”

Wouldn't you love to hear some current politician that would have the cojones to use that last line?

Or maybe just answer a question once in a while by saying... "I haven't got a fucking clue.... let me make a few phone calls, think it over and I will get back to you on that one......"
