How replacing Biden as Democratic nominee would actually work

Replacing President Biden as the Democratic nominee would be highly complicated, and likely impossible, unless the president voluntarily decided to back out on his own.

Politically and mechanically, it is nearly impossible to believe that Democrats would or could forcibly prevent Biden from becoming the nominee.

Right now, Biden is the only candidate for whom those attending the Democratic convention can even vote.

He received 99 percent of his party’s delegates in the primaries, and Democratic delegates have pledged to back whoever won their state’s contest in the first round of voting.

Democratic National Committee (DNC) rules require delegates that Biden won to pledge their support for his nomination unless Biden were to willingly decide to stand down and free his delegates for another candidate.

Before the convention opens on Aug. 19, the DNC could change the rules to block Biden, but that would require a level of political support hard to imagine. A battle between pro- and anti-Biden factions at a convention to unseat him is highly unlikely to happen.

Hunter's lawyers are trying a new tactic. It won't work (and they know it won't work) and I think it's only a delaying tactic. They need to delay his sentencing until after the tax trial is over so daddy can pardon his son for both crimes.


Garland thinks that the machine is going to protect him from the same fate Bannon is going to suffer.

Bannon claimed Exec Privilege for the records Congress wanted and was convicted for it. Garland has claimed Exec Privilege over the Hur interview tapes that congress wants. I anticipate that Garland will spend time behind bars unless he coughs up the tapes.


Mayorkas will get off scott free because nothing he's done is criminal enough to justify an indictment/trial/conviction.

If Biden steps aside, there will obviously be a new nominee. If he serves out his term but withdraws his candidacy soon and before the convention, members of the Democratic Party and their delegates will be hearing from a bunch of candidates, and the Conventions will be similar to their 1960 Convention. If he quits or dies after the convention, Harris will be in the driver's seat.

And, if Biden does drop not out of his campaign or leave the Presidency before the election, he will remain as the Democratic nominee. No sense in hand wringing. He holds all the cards, unless something happens that invokes the 25th Amendment. The Democratic Party will not force him out unless he becomes totally incapacitated.

I personally believe that now is the time seriously consider a range of other candidates who might be able to provide 8 years of Democratically dominated governance at the federal level by involving more younger and independent voters. That will only happen if Biden wants to go that route.

That was always the most likely answer. If they planned on dumping Biden the time was 2023 at the latest. These days the only way they can drop him now is to get Jill to slip him something at his 4th of July get together so he can be in a coma.

I am probably the most "traditional" Democrat on the PB, and I can tell you with some certainty that an abandonment of Kamala Harris in the highly unlikely event that President Biden steps aside, would be catastrophic - and it would be WRONG.

In a more equitable and less petty world, she may well have been nominated over candidate Joe Biden in 2020.

She has honed her craft a bit since being Vice President, and she is capable and prepared in any eventuality.

I, as a lifelong Democrat, would be furious if the Party abandoned Vice President Harris, but I can tell you right now that it won’t happen.

First: because President Biden is NOT stepping aside, and second; because President Biden would never do Vice President Harris like that.

President Biden would throw his support and his delegates to Vice President Harris in any hypothetical scenario where he would step aside.
