Rocket Scientists...

Like living in a second rate country do you? You could move to Europe or Africa, they have a bunch of them.

Space programs are part and parcel of national defense...I'm for spending taxes on things like that.

Wasting billions on useless departments like Energy, Education, Health and Welfare is what I object to...for instance the Dept. of Energy was initially set up by the Carter administration to reduce our dependence on foreign oil...they've done a great job.

Guess you can't read. I didn't take a position on which program NASA should be doing. In fact, I at least twice said that was a legitimate debate.

There is an inherent fallacy in the Obama announcement that anyone familiar with the Space program knows full well.

First off, the cancellation of the Constellation Project and the heavy lift rocket Aries, is an ouright waste of over three billion dollars in research, development and testing.

Secondly, as the Space Shuttle program is due to end after three more missions, the United States has to depend on the Russian Space Program to transport our Astronauts to the Space Station and the Russians just doubled the price per trip.

Thirdly, the so called, private enterprise options simply don't exist. It will be years before Virgin Atlantic will even offer sub orbital flights for tourists and never be able to achieve orbit with sufficient payload to resupply the Space Shuttle.

So..it is not just the Planned Moon Base, upon which additional billions have been spent, including a recent impact in a Lunar Polar Region that detected ice, which can be used for fuel and water, all of that research is now useless to the United States, but may benefit the Chinese.

This is Obama contemplating his navel at best. Possibly one of the worst decisions ever made by anyone, anywhere for any reason.

Amicus Veritas...

First of all I'd have preferred if other programs had been scrapped. But then again, trying not to spend money you don't have doesn't sound altogether unreasonable to me.

Hm, you are actually complaining about private enterprise options not existing? Where is your faith in the free market, man? Since the Big Bad Government is pulling out, won't the free market respond accordingly and fill that void? Isn't that what that Russian lady predicted?

I can of course appreciate that you are angry about all your tax dollars wasted in this fashion - hang on, you didn't pay any, did you?

We have a space program here too. Our taxpayers pay roughly the cost of a movie ticket per year for that. Yours pay four times as much. However, if you are broke, going to the movies to show that you can isn't exactly good home economics. Every unemployed person can tell you that.

Start another grass roots movement - but instead of complaining, create a bank account where people wanting to keep the program alive can pay in and support it.

Yeah, that example of forked tongue is quite amusing.

Hello again, Past_Perfect, been a while since we tangled; I see you have not matured as yet.

First off, the actual budget of NASA was increased, only the philosophical direction was changed, but being a furriner, I forgive you for not knowing that. However it does eliminate most of your argument.

And, actually, it was free enterprise that built the entire space program from the very beginning, each and every component.

I watched and listened to an interview with one of the Astronauts, somewhere back a few years ago and he said something very important that I totally agreed with.

I paraphrase, "It is man's nature to explore...that is why we climb mountains, cross oceans, we must, we are driven to ask and seek answers."

It is the lack of recognition of that basic tenet of man that I criticize the Left for. They just don't get it. As I said elsewhere, the Left are like females in a nest, they concentrate their entire effort on nurturing.

I don't mind, in fact, rather appreciate, the feminine point of view as it acts as a counterpoint to mine, which is totally masculine. But when an entire movement, the Progressive Liberals all express the feminist position of passive docility, one begins to wonder what happened to the concept of opposites attracting?

The Obama administration is making much more than just a political error in judgment, they are making a fundamental philosophical mistake in tending to the flock while the wolves circle.

And...there are always wolves.

Sorry for my ignorance. NASA is a free enterprise? As in private enterprise? Then I simply don't understand your argument. I thought it is financed by tax money.

Don't have time to respond to the rest yet, have to go to work.

Trust you enjoy your work....No, NASA is a Government Agency that hires private enterprise contractors to build everything they use.

I don't suppose that is pertinent to you but it is to me, government does nothing but collect taxes and direct projects decided by committee, you know, the ones that designed the Camel?

A further impertinence, in terms of how Government or government agencies select goals and projects; the 'invisible hand' of the free market place created just about everything you touched today and will ever touch. It is an amazing event that astounds all those planners who think they can do better in arranging the affairs of man.

The dignity of the free enterprise system and its' invisible hand, is that no force or coercion is ever required, whereas government cannot function without the use of force; by definition.

My husband will lose his teaching job this year, Zeb. As will many other colleagues. He has Masters plus 30, twenty some years teaching chemistry and physics, he's highly qualified. But that's irrelevant, of course. Inner city schools can't make gains fast enough to appease the No Child Left Behind nonsense.

They're going to fire every teacher in his high school and reorganize. He's looking elsewhere, but people aren't hiring because so many school districts are having serious financial issues.

Thank you, Bush.

Jesus. It would be nice if we could at least get his medical bills paid before he gets fired.

It isn't Nasa. But it's happening everywhere.

Really sorry to hear that Sarah, I really am. But you might expect more of that happening with Obama's new plans for government schools.

God, it must suck to be you. How do manage to live with all of that useless hate eating away at you? All you do is post rant after rant after rant blaming Obama for everything from gingivitis to dandruff. Give it a break.

Then why are you bitching about what is happening at NASA? (Even though it isn't what you claim it is)

What is really amusing with this is that the free-enterprise Tea Baggers who are bitching about this are bitching about the free-enterprise effect of the free-enterprise segment of the NASA programs. As usual, they don't have the foggiest notion what is going on.

And you're just full of shit on what you say you see government workers doing. Most of them are doing work you won't do but demand to have done--while bitiching about what you have to pay for services you couldn't possibly afford to have without government at work.

So you really don't know why I started this thread? Surprise, surprise.

And neither do you...so get your head out and look around.

And I do see government workers do just that. In places like Chicago and Cook County, a city truck blocks a lane of the highway, lights flashing. As the traffic backs up to go around you look to your left and there are five guys in reflective vests. Four of them are standing, watching the fifth fill the pothole from the sack of sackcrete. Down the road a bit is county vehicle in the parking lot of the local Jewel. In the truck are five guys, sleeping at 2:00pm in the afternoon. A police car drives by and honks its horn waking the five. The truck is started and the go on their way.

You roll down the expressway, it only one lane wide. After all it is construction season. As you slowly, about 10 miles an hour, roll down the road you spy a city truck with five guys leaning against it watching two guys smooth the cement that has just been poured.

I go to the DMV facility to renew my license. There is a line out the door around the building. When I finally get inside...there are 20 windows, but only 5 are open. There is a gaggle of employee's huddled in the corner laughing and joking.

That's government.

---------

I walk into the local Jewel, I wander the aisles and get my purchases. I push my cart to the check out lines. There are five open and two have pretty long lines. As I get in line at one of them then manager and assistant manager come out and open two more lines. I'm moved to a shorter line and am quickly rung up, bagged and leave.

A truck backs into the loading dock behind the store. The driver jumps out and opens the rear doors. People scurry out of the store and unload the truck.

That's the free enterprise system.

For someone with only 83 post and not that many with me you sure got me pegged.

Guess I'm with Swarmy, Zeb. it really must suck to be you and to have your myopic, hate-filled view of life and to have to live with all that crap you have to make up to rationalize your views. Glad it's you and not me. :)

(Busy looking for that personal Obama plan to destroy the schools systems?)

Do tell me what Obama's personal plans are for the schools.

I take it Obama is the boogey man under the bed for all your fears. A black one, right? :D

Showing you colors now are we. I fear nothing or no one. Obama is not a bogeyman. He is however possibly the worst thing that has happen to this country. IMHO. In yours I'm sure he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. And I'm sure it's strictly white bread for you.

In yours I'm sure he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. And I'm sure it's strictly white bread for you.

Well, no, as you would know if you weren't so steeped in your dogma that you read the threads of others.

But I guess this sort of sour absolutest view is necessary to maintain your rationale.

The only thing that sucks is having trite drivel typed by bullshit artist and blustering buffoons. Other than that I'm quite happy with who I am thank you. Probably more so that you. After all you are the one typing the hate-filled post, not me.

It would definitely help if he did. I don't speak Zeblish, do you?

:D :D :D

I think he might be preoccupied with tracking down that personal plan the boogeyman Obama has for destroying the public school system.

Got it yet, Zeb?

Really sorry to hear that Sarah, I really am. But you might expect more of that happening with Obama's new plans for government schools.

I know you're sorry, and I know you recently had to deal with similar issues. Thank you :rose:

However, one of the major reasons so many schools are facing such a budget crunch now is from all the unfunded forced federal mandates that comprise No Child Left Behind. Obama is working to fix or toss it. Another example of him fixing one of Bush's mistakes. Fixing, Zeb. FIXING.

Unfortunately, it won't happen in time to help us.

No I live in Houston and the word on the local news is there are a lot of people here worried about their jobs.

Every time the winds change in Washington, NASA 1 goes into panic mode. Predictions of mass layoffs and down sizing are rampant and have been many, many times over the last twenty years.

As usual, this too shall pass as the local news stations find something else to chew on.

For those that don't know, NASA 1 is the area of Southeastern Houston where the NASA complex is.

PS: Everyone knows why you started this thread. You started it so you could take another swipe at the President you don't like.

NASA will now be in the downsizing mode due to our wonderful president, who instead of creating jobs is trying his damnedest to reduce the working to the fewest he can and still support his utopian dreams.

You stated as much in your first post.
