How have we made it this far without mentioning Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds"? Definitely rock opera.

...I agree Bramble's point about theatrical performance (e.g. any Pink Floyd gig).

The promoter of one Pink Floyd show sued them to avoid payment. His claim that their show was "not a musical performance" was upheld by the judge. Whatever that noise was, it wasn't music.

I still classify "rock opera" with comic opera, space opera, horse opera, and soap opera. Overdo some drama and amplify it. Mea culpa: I like Stockhausen. Electronica opera, you-betcha!
