Announcers are talking about Presidential funeral traditions and referenced "kinoscopes of JFK's funeral in 1963"...I was pretty sure ancient kinescope technology had been replaced by rudimentary videotape in the 1950s...and it was, but since there was unprecedented 24 hour broadcast coverage of JFK's funeral back in a time when 24 hour coverage was extremely rare, CBS made the decision to record all 24 hours on less costly kinescope, the last final hurrah for kinescope.

Remember the non-stop coverage of Reagan's State Funeral festivities? I personally wanted to see those reporters and anchors just SHUT UP and let the viewers at home watch the moving ceremonies.

I remember Reagan had something like an 18 hour mega-funeral (including time zone changes from DC to California).

Nancy Reagan staged managed the production and had insisted that Reagan's actual California funeral service be delayed until the sun was setting over the Pacific horizon.

"Good optics" for TV, y'know?

Sadly, the 700-person invitation-only funeral service consisted largely of Reagan's Hollywood contemporaries, many of them in their 80s and 90s who were largely not in the best of health to begin with.....and it was brutally hot in California that day with zero shade.

I recall watching a number of semi-familiar faces being assisted for sun-related exposure issues.

Li'l Mikey Johnson used the occasion to disclose that President Carter had served on nuclear submarines during his service in the army.

Is there a depth limit to stupidity?

Never Forget: Jimmy Carter Pardoned a Child Molester.

Carter passed away last month, and the media has been desperate to canonize him and treat him as a great president when everyone knows he was garbage during his time in the White House. We’ve addressed some of his failings in the past, but now it’s worth bringing up another black mark on his record that hasn’t gotten much attention: his pardon of a child molester.
Why bring this up now? That child molester was none other than Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul, and Mary fame. Yarrow passed away on Tuesday at the age of 86 from cancer.
Yarrow, of course, was a supporter of Democratic politics in the sixties, and really big in the anti-Vietnam War protests. In 1970, however, Yarrow pled guilty to taking ‘immoral and improper liberties’ with a child.
As Rolling Stone notes, Yarrow invited a 14-year-old girl named Barbara Winter and her 17-year-old sister to meet him at his hotel room, where he molested her as her sister watched.
Rolling Stone explains what happened next:

Thursday, 9 January 2025: NBC 11 WXIA-TV Atlanta Live-Stream Coverage of the State Funeral of former US President James Earl "Jimmy" Carter, Jr., at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC.
