It could be said that it was both of these. Going a step further, the outcry from people starting to cancel their Disney subscriptions in protest hurt the bottom line more than any one network executive had foreseen. That became a clear factor when the other two major vendors also caved and put Kimmel back on their broadcasts as well.

Got to love it that Trump whines about how they could do that, having promised him they would fire Kimmel—laughable moment.
