RIP Jimmy Carter

Really? Really Jimmy? You were gonna be on my celebrity death list for next year. You an Betty White last time bitching out before Trump takes office? Bad form. Bad form.

Jokes aside he made it to 100. He was a great man and will be missed but if you make it past 90 I'm only so sad when you die.

President Carter and I have nothing in common politically but we have a lot in common in the way we grew up. He is without doubt one of the most decent men that has ever put his toe in the swamp that is DeeCee.

I’ve posted my one meeting with the president on this forum a couple of times but what the heck. I’ll do it again…

When Ted Kennedy left this earthly realm I was working up around the Vineyard area. Catching a flight out of Boston later that week I stayed in the hotel right beside Logan. I’m walking to my room and see a suit just sort of looking at me…didn’t think much of it. Got up the next day and went down for breakfast. On the way back up I get off the bank of elevators whip out and almost waylay this tiny little lady. I profusely apologize and she just smiles at me. I keep truck’n and knowing I know her from somewhere, whip around the next corner, where I”m face to face and almost waylaid President Carter. His detachment of Secret Service were flanking him and two in the rear…one of which was the suit looking me up and down the day before! I checked up with a huge look of surprise on my face and the dude that recognized me just smiled. I again stammered an apology and he mumbled a gracious no worries.

Turns out he and Roselyn were in town for Ol’ Teddy’s wake. For an instant I started to run back and ask him about a drawing he did in his book An Hour Before Daylight. It was a carbon copy of our farm…right down to the outhouses! 😂
Not wanting to push my luck I thought, I’d write him and ask. I have heard he read and answered all mail. Sadly I procrastinated and never got my answer.

RIP President Carter, prayers go out to friends and family and all of Plains, GA.

One of the most underestimated presidents. He gets a bad rap because a lot of things beyond his control happened on his watch. There was nothing he could have done to prevent the stagflation or the energy crisis. And the Iran mess was something he inherited from Eisenhower. He did mediate peace between Egypt and Israel, and the two have not gone to war since.

When shitbag Reagan came in, first thing he did was take the solar panels off the WH roof -- dick move, even if the panels were only a symbolic gesture.

I read in The Invisible Bridge, by Rick Perlstein, that Carter approached the budgeting process -- at least to start with -- like an engineer: He simply looked at what spending was needed and where the money could be raised -- without any reference at all to what affected interest groups would squawk.

Of course in the present environment, Carter will be remembered as the president who signed the Canal over to Panama.

President Jimmy Carter dies at 100
One man who was a fantastic man after leaving the White House. Swinging a hammer into his 90's, with Habitat For Humanity. Oh, yes, he and I shared a birthday. Both of us born on October first. I'm exactly 22 years younger.

Most of my life, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter were easy punching bags as hicks from the sticks from the right and spineless democrats.
I know better today.

IF Christians in America were not hypocrites to the words and preachings of Jesus then Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter would/should be celebrated as upholders of the faith more than any republican president - present day and including Ronald and Nancy Reagan.

RIP Mr. President.

Described by Willie as “ a big, fat Austin torpedo”.

Hmmmmm. 🤔

I am inclined to believe that you are trying hard here to dishonor his memory. If so, this is a huge fail. If I were president - I’d split one with Willie in the Rose Garden on live tv.

Willie and Emmylou Harris in the oval.

The Allman Brothers were invited to the 1974 post-concert reception Carter hosted for Bob Dylan, but Gregg Allman didn’t arrive at the governor’s mansion until the other guests had already left. He was waved through the gates anyway, and as he approached he saw a man standing on the porch, wearing a worn and ragged pair of jeans, without a shirt or shoes.

“I thought, ‘Who’s this bum they’re letting hang out at the governor’s mansion?’” Allman said, according to Kai Bird’s book The Outlier: The Unfinished Presidency of Jimmy Carter. “But dadgum! It was him!” The two shared some scotch together, before Carter surprised Allman by saying “Gregory—can I call you Gregory?—I’m going to be President.”
