1 - I haven't finished reading yet.
2 - Yes, this kind of thing was happening left, right and centre in our past.
3 - Female enslavement still happens (some cultures tolerate it e.g. Roma/gypsy ((not confused with traveling hippies or the capital city of Italy))).
4 - I find Romani tradition of fathers "selling" their daughters distasteful, but the whole whoopla of their traditional wedding night and the parading of "bloodied" bed-sheet the next morning mildly charming in a "you gotta be kidding, right?!" sort of way.
5 - Romani are discriminated against by ethnic moajority with inequal rights, therefore the minority stick with each other and emphasise their traditional culture, including female oppression. If and, hopefully, when the minority is given equal rights, the tradition dilutes slowly, but surely.
P.S
I'm not sure Romani weddings include "poop inspection" or BDSM.

No Hazel that's not spam, that's just being polite. If they left an address then they may want to talk to you about the story. (warning: some feedback is sent only to get you to write back and not about the story)
