If ever I have seen a message of hope, it was seeing nature recover after our bushfires in 2009. Although there was nothing left but scorched earth and blackened tree trunks, it was only weeks before new growth appeared on black stumps, seedlings sprouted from cracks in the burnt ground, and wildlife returned to the area. Out of every disaster comes something new. There is always hope.

Sorry to take this of topic, but several years ago I read an article in the Sierra Club magazine that said forest fires are actually a natural part of the cycle of a forest. That they actually saw plants that had become extinct growing again in an area that had been devastated by a forest fire. I thought that was really interesting.

Nothing to be sorry for. And you are right; Our bush contains many plant species with seeds that will only germinate once a fire has swept through and they have literally been scorched. It's a protective mechanism of nature in more ways than one. It ensures that even after the worst disasters we recover, and at the same time ensures sustainable growth so that not each and every seed that drops germinates straight away which would lead to ever denser bush for which there isn't enough water all at once.
