Mitch McConnell challenged by two former Marines as impeachment puts the unpopular senator in a bind

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will be judged by Kentucky voters in 2022 — and he now officially has two challengers running as Democrats.

“Democratic candidates Amy McGrath and Mike Broihier each said they filed paperwork Friday to run for the seat currently held by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican,” the Washington Times reported Saturday.

McConnell’s poll numbers in Kentucky have cratered since he attached himself to Trump, with a recent poll showing only 37% of voters planning to reelect him.

Trump defense lawyer Rudy Giuliani lashes out at ‘corrupt’ politicians with a ‘craven desire’ for cash

“How can we let these phony and corrupt career politicians destroy our nation built on laws, NOT a craven desire for power and wealth. Look at their families & see the millions they have made selling their public offices!” Giuliani argued.

Since leaving public office in 2001, Giuliani has grown fabulously wealthy.

In 2018, New York Magazine estimated Giuliani to have a $45 million net worth.

During his divorce from Judith Nathan Giuliani, his third wife, Giuliani argued he could afford to represent Trump for free because he would still make five to six million dollars a year.

New York scumbag projecting?, ah yeah!

Pompeo accuses Iran of suppressing protest memorials

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday slammed Iran for using “violence” and censorship to prevent memorials for those killed during the suppression of recent protests.

Protests broke out on November 15 across Iran, whose economy has suffered under sweeping sanctions from the United States, after the government abruptly hiked fuel prices.

“The Iranian people have the right to mourn 1,500 victims slaughtered by @khamenei_ir during #IranProtests,” Pompeo tweeted, directly accusing Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

And Pompeo is proud to stand for human rights? Yet he holds sanctions that create the oppression in Iran by giving the Mullahs a Villain to arm themselves against. Great 3D chess there Mike.

Since Donald Trump was sworn into office I've heard Republicans proclaim that collusion isn't a crime, fraud isn't a crime, sexual assault isn't a crime, perjury isn't a crime and lying to the FBI isn't a crime.

Once upon a time, didn't the Republican Party claim to be the Party of Law and Order? How did they become the Party of Obstruction and Cover-Ups?

I wanna say that it was 1996, the year that Rupert Murdoch, Roger Ailes and Newt Gingrich formed an alliance to reject reality and make lies so commonplace that they replaced the truth.

With the American people distracted, confused and misinformed, it becomes much harder to inspire outrage against the crimes committed by the Republicans.

The fact that Republicans can be wholesale owned as a party by the Trump movement for this long is essentially permanent proof that current Republicans have no real sense of morality.

Depends on which set of morals you're trying to apply and to who. ;)

Better than the wholesale promotion of pure evil going on by the (D)eez.

I haven’t heard any of the Presidential candidates talking about their dick size, or how ugly their opponent’s spouses are. When is that supposed to start?

Articulate and Analytical writes: "...current Republicans have no real sense of morality."

BotanyBoy responds: "Depends on which set of morals you're trying to apply and to who."

jp55665566 adds: "Ha ha... Democrats are moral creatures?"

Modern Democratic Party "morality" includes mourning the death of an Iranian General responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American troops.

phrodeau writes: "I haven’t heard any of the Presidential candidates talking about their dick size, or how ugly their opponent’s spouses are. When is that supposed to start?"

Bringing up "dick sizes" in a political party that's been thoroughly emasculated and is devoid of any candidate "possessing a pair" would probably be a mistake.

‘Enjoy jail!’: Internet mocks Duncan Hunter’s resignation a full month after pleading guilty

It was reported Tuesday that Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) would resign one month after he was convicted of misusing campaign funds for personal reasons.

Hunter attempted to blame his wife for the funds, but he also spent the campaign dollars on five alleged mistresses, so it was unknown how his wife was responsible. Hunter’s wife complained that it’s incredibly difficult to live on $174,000 annually. After Hunter’s arguments fell apart, he began negotiating a deal with prosecutors.

He ultimately pled guilty before the holidays in December. But it wasn’t until Jan. 7 that he finally announced he would resign on Jan. 13, giving him a full month of pay after being convicted.

3-5 years at hard labour will cure that Vape habit!:)

Republicans, Fix Your Own Damn Party And Stop Demanding Sh*t From Ours

The Washington Post ran one of those op-eds I hate. You know the one because we're so close: A Republican who hates Donald Trump "advises" Democrats on who we should nominate to beat him in November. This strikes me as odd because Republicans couldn't stop Trump when they had the chance. They were the only ones voting and he wound up their nominee. More people already voted for a Democrat, Hillary Clinton, over Trump, but that didn't matter because US democracy is goofy. However, there are encouraging signs in the polls that we can beat the freshly impeached Trump in the Electoral College. I think we're OK, even with our crazy socialist candidates. Republicans set their own house on fire. They can crash at our place for a while, but we don't need to listen to their interior design tips.

If Republicans want a qualified candidate to vote for they can damn well nominate one! Donnie is not qualified to be classed as human, much less Presidential.

Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) is being unfairly targeted for criticizing Ilhan Omar's claim of PTSD, a condition that only soldiers get.

Rep. Ilhan Omar complained she’s “stricken with PTSD” because of recent events in the Middle East.

This is a disgrace and offensive to our nation’s veterans who really do have PTSD after putting their life on the line to keep America safe.

Rep. Banks, You and I spent a few months in Afghanistan.

Rep. Omar grew up in war-torn Somalia before spending years in a Kenyan refugee camp on the Somali border.

It’s not up to us to decide who is and is not “worthy” of PTSD.

Trauma is trauma. A uniform is not required.

Hi Jim, military veteran here. I have PTSD unrelated to my military service. Veterans do not own PTSD. We don't get to arbitrate who does + does not have PTSD simply because we served. I find it disgraceful and offensive that you would use service to shame Rep. Omar over PTSD.

Dear @RepJimBanks,

This is a tremendously ignorant thing to say.

Veterans like us know that people wearing uniforms aren’t the only ones impacted by war.

@Ilhan is a refugee. We stand with her against hawkish elites like you. #VetsForIlhan #EndForeverWar

We have a corrupt, unhinged and tyrannical President, it is in the country’s best interests to force his removal from office.

Donald Trump and the rest of the Republican Party would have you believe that as President, he can do whatever he wants and break any laws he wants, like a king or emperor — but this goes against the very nature of the Constitution on which this country was founded. And indeed, the Constitution includes the very mechanisms needed to remove such an occupant from office.

That is why Speaker Pelosi should be applauded for doing damn near everything in her power, to serve the interests of this country, uphold the values of the Constitution, and ensure the Senate holds a fully prosecuted and unbiased impeachment trial.

Gaetz has always been one of Trump's biggest boosters in the House. It'll be interesting to see if that's worth anything whatsoever now that he's gone against him once.

‘A real conspiracy in pursuit of an illicit end’: GOP commentator shocked by Parnas’s newly-released evidence

Longtime conservative activist and Republican operative Bill Kristol was shocked after newly-released evidence suggested that Rudy Giuliani associates put a tail on Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch.

Politico national security correspondent Natasha Bertrand said, “holy sh*t” upon seeing the new evidence.

“This certainly makes it sound like Parnas and co. were actively tracking Yovanovitch’s movements. This could explain why Yovanovitch was moved out of Ukraine so quickly,” she wrote on Twitter.

Kristol added his analysis.

“The removal of Yovanovitch was always a sign this was a real conspiracy in pursuit of an illicit end, not a case of mere haphazard, fitfully-expressed wishes of Trump,” he explained.

Republicans now divorcing Trumpski!

A dozen GOP senators are now willing to limit Trump’s war powers after disastrous Suleimani briefing: Tim Kaine

Speaking to The Daily Beast this Tuesday, Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) said that there may be a growing contingent of Republicans who are willing to curtail President Trump’s ability to go to war with Iran, thanks to the reportedly disastrous security briefing Secretary of State Mike Pompeo gave legislators last week.

According to Kaine, there are now around a dozen GOP senators willing to vote in favor of a resolution that requires congressional approval before any escalation of military activity. Kaine added that there might be more Republicans in support of the resolution than he knows of.

Revolting Republicans!:D

Guess Moscow Mitch will just have to hold it on his desk with everything else he isn't bringing to the Senate floor while our dumb board Trumpettes keep wondering out loud why the Democrats aren't doing any congressional business.

These 6 GOP senators have negative approval ratings — threatening Republican control in 2020

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) may not be in control of the body following the 2020 elections. In fact, he might not even be a senator.

On Thursday, Morning Consult released a new poll on all 100 senators, based on 494,899 interviews with voters. The survey had some major red flags for Republicans hoping to hold control of the chamber in 2020.

In Kentucky, McConnell himself is wildly unpopular. Only 37% of Kentucky voters approve of McConnell, while 50% disagree — giving the GOP leader a net approval rating of -13.

However, McConnell is no longer the most unpopular senator in America, that title now belongs to Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), who has a 42% approval rating, while 52% of Maine voters disapprove, for an approval rating of -10.

Four other GOP senators up for re-election in 2020 have underwater approval ratings.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) has a -5% approval rating while Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ), Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO), and Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) were all clocked at -3 approval ratings.

If Mitch and the rest lose their seats to a Dem, it will be the hammer of doom for Republicans!
How many House seats are up for grabs? A Blue Tsunami is threatened by the enthusiasm to vote in the Trump Dump Election of 2020!

Suck on that Mitch!:D:D:D:D:D

The Republican Party is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Trump’s regime and an expression of his personal will and power. To that end, Trump has promised financial support to the Republican senators who will soon be voting at his trial. It has also been reported that Trump ordered the execution of Iranian Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani in order to ensure that Republican senators would support his acquittal.

In essence, Donald Trump pays political blood money to his supporters. This is more evidence of Trump’s political thuggery and mobster-style behavior that is unbefitting an American president.

Like other dictators, authoritarians, autocrats and political thugs, Donald Trump believes he is above the law. With the support of Attorney General William Barr, this appears increasingly true.

The obscenities continue.

Donald Trump has suggested he is “the chosen one” and God’s messenger on earth. White Christian evangelicals believe this to be true and have pledged themselves to his cult.

Trump and his allies label Democrats, liberals, progressives and anyone else opposing him as traitors and enemies of the United States. The most recent example: at a rally last Thursday in Toledo, Trump said that Democrats were “vicious horrible people.”

None of this should be surprising. Trump is following the authoritarian’s playbook almost to the letter in his assault on American democracy, the Constitution and the rule of law. The question is not whether Donald Trump is an authoritarian and would-be dictator but rather whether anything or anyone is capable of stopping him.
