Yes, but none of the Spanish settlements led to the formation of "America" as a country, which is the focus of this thread. Florida, California and other Spanish territories joined the union later.
(Understand that I of course recognize the influence of all the states and territories in the nation's growth after the Revolutionary War, but the memo above is clearly referring to the "America" begun by the English colonies, not "America" as the entire middle portion of continent as we know it today. So pointing out that "Hey! Spanish people were here!" is silly.)
