Just wondered how many of you noticed this yesterday. I didn't see a post about it, and was sure that Toddums would have already posted it. Maybe I missed it.

First of all, I don't want to come off as a racist, but this is insane.

This lawsuit claims that even today, African-Americans are being penalized due to those attrocities their ancestors suffered. How many still believe that you can't succeed in this country due to the fact that a great-great-great-grandfather or grandmother was a slave? Can't they work and earn what they want just like the rest of us. Are they told "no" they can't have a job or a place to live because they were offspring of slaves? How many have been denied any basic rights that the rest of the Americans enjoy just because they are descendants of slaves?

At what point do we as a society come to grips with the facts that not all of humankind has acted the way that we all wish they had. We have a race of people who seem to think that because some of our ancestors participated in slavery, which was the way of the times, that those of us living in this country should be made to pay back wages to them all.

Are we going to see lawsuits filed in African courts against the tribes that sold their own people into to slavery? Are we going to say that all black men and women are entitled to be paid off? Paid for what? What kind of proof would be needed to show that they are entitled to be paid for their ancestors work? Do we require that they all trace their roots and then submit past bills to those ancestors of the owners that enslaved them?

Since my family came here from Sweden and Germany back in the late 1800's am I required as well to pay my tax dollars to a government that will some day be held accountable for such actions?

What about the Native Americans? Do we all fork over a debt owed to them for all of us taking their land? Are the African-Americans going to pay their fair share of land royalties and rights to the Native American population as well?

We all agree that slavery was wrong. We all know that those who were bought and sold like cattle suffered greatly, but shouldn't we go back to the source of where slavery started. We didn't steal their freedom from them. Their own people did that. They put them on the market, killed and maimed those who would not cooperate long before they ever made it to the states.

If we are asking for accountability. Start at the top then decide who was at fault. Us for buying or them for selling?
