To a point. But when the link is from someone you see around here, you do develop a certain amount of trust. Granted I haven't been here that long, but I haven't seen that done here yet. Most of us know of each other here, and that trust was violated. Guess it was blind trust. Now we all know better.

You're right Pamela; I think we all agree it was an unexpected and unfriendly prank.

I think the fact that it was a new kind of prank for the GB has pissed people off as much as anything else.

And I think that the amount of energy and bad feelings generated by people who had nothing to do with the prank or clicking on it illustrates who the chronically unhappy people here are and how they love feeding into anger instead of having a laugh, shrugging it off (yet marking it down for future reference) and moving on.

I hope that siren files charges. Not so much that I'd like to see that little cunt IR sweat, but so that Laurel and Manu get to spend a little time with the FBI.

I fully support their dedication to freedom of speech. However in this instance they have blown off the seriousness of malicious behavior. Purposeful malicious behavior. It is obvious that the little cunt knew that the link contained a virus. That makes her culpable. Not the victim of a "pass it along" virus unleashed by someone else. That she has not been banned from this board indicates that Laurel and Manu condone this behavior.

I am also distressed by the attitudes of some on the board that think this is funny. It may not occur to them that there are those of us that actually use our computers for business as well as playing here at Lit. It is a reflection on their maturity the manner in which they took delight in siren's dilema. And absolutely no regard for the time that has to be taken to correct these problems.

All in all a very shabby performance by many members of this board. I know that I will remember their names, and respond to them with the same respect that you and your wife have been shown.

If Laurel and Manu handed over such information to the FBI, they would be breaching an implicit agreement they have between themselves and the posters here. Laurel and Manu would be like the bookstore, or whatever, asked to turn over names of the people on this - their IP addresses, their e-mail etc.

Many of us at this board put faith and truth and rely on Laurel and Manu as ethical administrators of an internet bulletin board. I doubt any of us would like the information here to be made available to anyone else.

It's called privacy. Many of us treasure and value our privacy above anything else. I would not feel comfortable if I knew that Laurel or Manu did not value individual privacy as much as the members on this site. I would not be able to post here as I do.

Additionally, one of the arguments for the callous nature of Indigo's prank was because she infringed on the privacy of those who didn't necessarily want their computer yelling out that they were looking at porn. Ishmael, in your own post you say people use their computers for business as well as posting at lit. This demonstrates that privacy is an important issue for you.

To protect privacy, you must protect it on all fronts. Surely you can realize this.
