I know it is very difficult not to have a job lined up before you move but, realistically speaking, this may be your only realistic option if you really want to move. Believe me, I've been there, done that. I have actually been on both sides of the table. I have moved several times around the country and I am also an employer who hires. I have usually discarded almost all resumes coming from other parts of the country wanting to move here. First, it is too much of a pain in the ass to set up interviews like this. I want the job filled now. Even with a person from this area I would have to go through the screening and interview process and then probably wait two weeks for them to give notice. I don't want to have to wait for your airline scheduling to upset my routine and then turn around and have to wait for you to move out here before you can start. Then I have to wonder that if I hired you and you didn't like the job or the area you might just up and fly the coup and then go back "home". Your chances are slim of landing a job from out of town, unless you are in a high demand field. Then, of course, I take back everything I said. I know you worry about how you would pay your bills if you quit first, then moved, and then started looking for a job but it could actually be cheaper in the long run and land you a better job. It costs a lot of money to fly accross country with no advance tickets and you could spend a lot and get no where, sucking up any money you do have and making it impossible to move just due to that. As I said before, if you are in a high demand field then it does make more sense to find a job first and then move. Otherwise, your best bet is to save up so you have a few months of living expenses in your pocket while you search for employment. In any event, good luck.
